How did everyone fair this weekend?
I had things to do around the house Saturday. But, I met up with my dad Sunday morning to hunt turkeys. We hunted together early. Heard one gobbling on the roost, but he clammed up and disappeared.
Later in the morning we stopped in a different spot and split up to just do some calling. I picked an area and just sat down. I yelped once on a box call to see if anything would answer. Nothing. Pulled out a slate call and sat there about 5 minutes. I yelped one more time and one gobbled right behind me. I had just enough time to swivel around to the other side of the tree and get my gun on my knee before I could see him coming about 20 yards away. It was pretty thick in there. He popped his head out less than 15 yards away, saw me sitting there, started to pivot and go back, and I pulled the trigger. I can tell you that 3" longbeards will damn near decapitate a turkey at that range. The only thing holding his head on was a little skin on one side.
Anyway, it turned out to be just a jake, but he gobbled, and stuck his head out and I had about 2 seconds to shoot. And, he'll taste just fine. Best of all, I got to spend some time hunting with Dad.
How did you fellas do?

It was in the form of "how many fish did you kill this weekend" or something like that

34 trout in Delacroix on Sunday morning. It wasn't LIMITS so I didn't post in the other thread. Great weather and we were on a pretty decent bite until 10 am or so.

Called up a nice tom for my brother-in-law Saturday morning. He had never killed a turkey before, so I was probably more pumped that he finally killed one than had I shot it myself

We were out at the big lake friday and had a 4 man limit of reds within a few hours. My biggest was 35 inches, was pretty unreal!

It was tough out east. I think a tanker full of chocolate milk was spilled in my redfish grounds.

Baseball tournament screwed my weekend. My son's Jr high team formed a travel ball team (just to keep in practice and get ready for high school), and we had to play at 9 am both days. This is the first time for us, and as I expected, we got drummed on Sunday.
I went straight to the woods after the game and got there about 11:30. When I got out of the truck I heard one gobble and headed towards him and got set up. After about 5 minutes I heard someone owling at him and it sounded like exactly where the gobble had come from. I waited a while and moved a little closer and called, but the turkey never said another word.
Public land is hard to hunt - there's a dumbass behind every tree.

Whew, tell me about it. I had one of those last weekend. I parked at a gated road, and walked in. At daylight, two started gobbling right back by my truck. I headed back and started getting set up. Then I heard a vehicle coming down the road. They stopped, apparently just before they got in sight of my truck. Got out and started hooting like an epileptic owl on speed. The turkeys shut up and didn't gobble again for a while. When they did, they were headed the other direction. And old dude had walked down the side of the ridge and was calling like a turkey farm all morning. Needless to say, I didn't get one that day.

Fished Reggio Friday. Water was low and dirty. Managed 4 reds and 1 black drum in the 17" range, 4 trout, and 2 bass. That black drum was my first in nearly a year.

Man the water was about 2 feet higher than when we prefished. We caught a ton of fish, but almost all were tiny. I have a scale that I can put all five fish on to see which ones to cull, and our first five weighed 5.21 pounds and that included a 2 pounder!
We finally just started going down the bank fishing whatever was in front of us and I caught one good one punching and two good ones on a frog. First place dude had 19 damn pounds! We were second with 11 something.

Boiled crawfish & crabs Friday
Spent Saturday night offshore : 7 yellowfin tuna, 1 bigass big eye tuna, bunch of blackfin tuna we cut up for bait, and a mix of bottom fish on the way in
No pictures because conundrum would get mad with the rigs in the background
