I'm jelly. I'll have to settle for Cocodrie/Dulac for now.

Somebody has been watching too much Swamp People.

You'll see alligators in most any waterway in south LA, but they don't want anything to do with you.

Don't try to fish any noisy topwater baits around them

Black panthers are the real problem here.

You definately need to go saltwater fishing down here, especially if you've never experienced it before.

+1. On the saltwater fishing. If you have never been before you should take a chance at an experience that you will not forget.

Plus you can always fish freshwater when your home but last I checked Indiana was in short supply of Redfish, Speckled Trout, and a variety of offshore species.

Welcome to the board. What part of Indiana are you? I've a few customers in Indy.

My suggestion is that if you are going to drive that far with a boat, you might as well go on down to the saltwater.

Once you do that you will care less about catching slimey freshwater fish.

I'm about 70 miles South of Indy. 30 miles north of Louisville. I'll probably be taking the wife with me and pretty doubtful I can get her in the saltwater.

Welcome to the OB, man that's pretty country up there.
Like others have said, if you get down here try to fish saltwater at least once. Good luck.

I think I might want to go wherever Shelby Stanga is.

Big Lake is inland so its pretty much like being on a freshwater lake. I would suggest a guided trip for saltwater fishing, half day is pretty reasonable and the weather lately has been great except for a little wind.

Yeah, dont even tell her it's gonna be saltwater. Unless you go out into the Gulf, she won't know the difference. When y'all start catching fish just tell her we got dem crazy swamp species of freshwater fish down here.

The motor on my boat is not made for saltwater. How bad would it hurt it if I was in it for a while?

Welcome to the board, your wife won't be able to tell the difference between inshore marsh and freshwater unless she tries to drink it. It's actually shallower than most freshwater lakes and alot easier to find fish in. Once she hooks a red she'll care less anyway.

It won't hurt it as long as you flush it out well and wash the hell out of it. Standard procedure around here.
