Looks like there will be stricter regulations on mud boats in the Pass a Loutre WMA. Looks like you can still use them after 2pm but you will be restricted to certain passes.

We hunt out of mud boats and pirogue/kayak so won't really affect us. Should help let the birds settle a little. Early season, there are a ton of people who run around all afternoon scouting and running the birds up. It may push more people up towards Baptiste since there is no restriction up there.

I do too. It will give the birds a chance to rest a little more.

The ignorant coonasses will throw a fit even though the Limited Access Areas at the Wax consistently kills more birds per hunter effort than the rest of the WMA

I'm a big proponent of the LAA's on WMA's, the stats, generally, support this on MOST WMA's but not always. I recently did an extensive review of bag check data for those WMAs they collect it on, including comparisons to LAA's. The data tends to skew a bit (i.e. 5 birds/hunter effort in LAA vs. maybe 3 in non-LAA) in some cases because there are just so much fewer hunters hitting the LAA vs. non.

I hope the LAA's continue to expand but don't believe that the mud motor companies/lobby won't put up huge fights. While we might all agree that less pressure is for the betterment of the sport and improving the hunt experience, lots argue that mud boats are getting more people afield, selling more licenses, etc. that otherwise wouldn't be able to go. I don't own one so makes no difference to me, ban 'em all for all I care.

I'm sure that can work elsewhere but down river wind & seas can escalate quickly. Pass a Loutre has areas you can safely hunt without a mud boat but there are others you could get yourself in a bind using a canoe/ pirogue

I've never had this issue and I've hunted in 25-30+ winds tons of times. It's definitely more dangerous in the higher winds. Just don't plan on paddling so far in that case or try to cross a wide open bay on days like that. Usually less hunters in those conditions also.

It won't be long before mud boats, surface drives, and longtails will all be banned from WMAs. They apparently do a lot of damage to aquatic grasses.
