This may have already been posted. But I heard a rumor today from a guy in one of the leases that got bought up. The State of Ms thru a federal land grant has made a huge land purchase. 18k acres I think it’s Anderson Tully its the property that joins Mahannah WMA and runs Steel Bayou. I.e. where the CWD deer was found.

I know my state will put all kinds of dumb arse regulations on it But if true that will be one fine place. Mahannah 10k this place 18k, 28k contiguous acres. I just hope us duck hunters get a little pice of the pie.

I heard a rumor that MDWFP faked the CWD so that the land prices would fall

Great for MS anyway. Too bad it could become a CWD WMA.

I take it that's big for Mississippi? I'm not familiar with Mississippi WMAs, so I'm genuinely curious.

It more about where it’s located. This area is what borders Tara it a track between 61 hwy and the river. Due to the size of deer and the years of management this type of access is beyond most hunters means. For a lot of deer hunters it’s like getting a free ticket to the super bowl.

One of the clubs that was bought had a 180” and a 170”+ killed last year.

We lease A&T land. They do land management the right way. That’s why you see 160-170 class deer in this area.

I hunt at one of the ATCO clubs that had land sold. Our club adjoins the previously mentioned one and also adjoins Mahannah WMA.

I meant the actual purchase of each camp. I’m in buck bayou, the one you were talking about. We must be neighbors.
There has been numerous rumors going around, just trying to figure out what the actual purchase consists of. This sucks!!

Nothing more concrete than message board rumors, foresters that worked for ATCO, and members from other clubs in the area. I did see a map of the newly proposed WMA, but don’t know how accurate it is. It encompassed Martin’s, Buck Bayou, Keen’s, Goose Lake, ATCO property that WCHFC leases, and some properties west of Steele Bayou. I feel especially bad for those camps with buildings on site (Buck Bayou, Keen’s, Martin’s, and Goose Lake). I believe WCHFC owns the land where there camp is. There is a decent amount of money invested in those camp houses, but is it to the point of being worth taking them down and moving them?

We have no plans to move our structure. It’s been there since the 70’s. Some of our other members just built a structure 3 years ago. That’s going to be hard to swallow. I also can’t fathom how long it’s gonna take to get all our stands and camp items out.

I’ve seen the map too, I assume those bordering mahannah will be consumed into mahannah. And the others will be Thad Cochran wma.

Zero. I meant you see them killed every year. I kill a club legal buck every year and have seen a 160-170 class on the hoof twice.
