New Boats - What brands should I be looking into?
Posted by TigerFan4040 on 3/5/18 at 4:17 pm00
Holy smokes new boats are expensive these days!
Our trusty old 22ft bay boat is on its last leg, and I want to start looking into some new bay boats in the 21-24ft range in the ballpark of 35-40k max.
What advice do you baws have on new boats in this price range?

Saw the new 40th anniversity bass tracker the other day. At 10k its a pretty sweet rig. I dont need much more for bass and panfish

Right! I started looking online today, and it appears one or more of those criteria will need to change!
40k apparently doesn't go very far in the world of boats these days.

you wont be finding new ones in that price range.

Rigged you might be able to get an express or other aluminum mass production boat. They're good rigs. You won't get a new big name glass boat rigged for that anymore from what i understsnd.

Yeah, I wasn't trying to be a jackass, but there's almost zero chance you'll find a new boat in that length range for that price. Rigged out mass production boats (Skeeter, Nautic Star, Blue Wave, etc.) in the 22" range with adequate power are almost all going to be north of $50k, with most being north of $60k. If you're trying to stay in that price range, I'd shop for something used. Bay boats depreciate pretty quickly.

Sounds like you should look for more of a newer used boat. You can def find one in your price range that has barely been broken in

Look into Frontier. It's a 21 ft fiberglass bay boat made by the same people that make Blackjack. It's basically a 21 ft Blackjack.
I got a 2017 last fall with a 200 Yamaha for exactly 40k, with bluetooth stereo, speakers, offshore radio, trailer.
Then +++ for trolling motor, power pole, and GPS. Came out to just under 50k once loaded.
Also, you could look into Bulls Bay. A litte cheaper, around 35-38k for 22 ft, but I could feel the difference.

Blue Wave makes a model that falls in that price range. I think it is the sl bay not the pure bay

Decide what fishing you really want to do, then decide how big of a boat you really want.
Then start looking for boats that size in your price range... Personally, I'd look for used a one. There's plenty of people who bought a new bay boat a few years ago and didn't put a lot of hours on it, who either can not afford it today, or just don't have time to fish... why not buy theirs for $10k or so less than a new one? (and only pay sales tax on the trailer, rather than on the whole new rig if you had bought new.)
There are certainly some manufacturers that make nicer boats than others, but pretty much everything on the market will get you on the water.
The hulltruth is a good site to peruse boats and boats for sale.
Shopping for boats can be fun... enjoy it! Be patient, but you gotta be ready to pull the trigger when you see it!

first you will need to sell your house to pay the down payment, then you can take out a loan to pay off the rest.

Let somebody else take the new boat price beating and find a one or two year old rig with low hours and plenty of warranty left.

Like others said ain’t Gunna happen...
I bought a barely used frontier 2104 with 200
Sho for mid 30s..same boat rigged out was 50k
There are tons of slightly used boats in your price range. Some 24’ as well in that range just won’t be newer.
Seapickle bought a new frontier 2104 with 200 Yammy slightly over 40k. Shop around and out of state. Deals are out there for sure

I saw a fair amount of 20-22 in the 25-35 range at the Nola boat show. One I really liked was the Sportsman 22' I believe and it was under 30. I really like the hull but know nothing about it.

What bay system and duties does the boat need to handle?
