According to Murray Police Sgt. Ali Richmond, a man in his 30s accidentally discharged his weapon at TNT Guns and Range on Commerce drive. The bullet went through three shooting bays before going through both of a woman's legs and lodging into a wall.

Be careful at the range boys and girls. Before the office changed to the basement, I (used to) dive by this shop everyday on the way to work. It's a solid shop with a great range. Good thing for the victim, it's less than 1 mile from the best trauma center in the state.

What kind of barriers are used to separate the shooting bays ?? That sounds like some serious penetration.

I have yet to see a range that is designed with bullet proof barriers between lanes.

I have been to several police ranges with ballistic rated barriers between shooters and assumed they were all like that. Makes me second guess being at an indoor range that close to someone I don’t know AND CANT SEE handling firearms. At least on an outdoor range if the guy next to me is doing something stupid I can see it and move.

Reading this makes me realize how grateful I am to have places to shoot and not need to go to ranges.

I've seen some serious dents in the Bass Pro range in Denham Springs...
looks like they were angled shots deflected down range...

Indoor ranges make me cringe. Just look around at all the bullet holes/marks in the walls, ceilings, floors, barriers, etc.

True. At least at outdoor ranges, misfired shots aren't as well documented.

I've never been to a range where I was totally isolated from someone else's stupidity. It's certainly a place to pay attention to who is around you.

When the one in Sulphur opened a few years ago I went in the first week to check it out and they already had those. The guy giving us a tour just shrugged it off. Nah, I’m out.

The number of threads about by a weapon for protection because of the riots leads me to believe there are lots of novice shooters out there right now. It's kind of a shame that most ranges can't have someone watch each new shooter at their location, and send a range master down to the shooters lane if they look inexperienced. That's what the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office range does. They had cameras on each lane, and I've seen them talk to people about how they hold their gun while loading it, locking it with the slide pulled back during a break, etc.

I hate the noise at indoor ranges, but love being able to changes the distance I'm shooting. Still prefer the outdoor range because of the noise, and would rather be outside.

My home range absolutely has ballistic steel core dividers and has an RSO watching at all times, but shite happens fast and I'm not inside a ballistic box. I pick the far right lane up against the wall, because I only want to take fire from one direction. Plus, the way the human wrist works, right handed shooters will have a harder time muzzling me than left handed shooters will.

I also try to go at odd hours, like 10:30 on a Wednesday morning, when I often have the entire range to myself.

4 Laws of Gun Safety:

1. Always treat a weapon as if it is loaded
2. Never point your weapon at something you don't intent to shoot.
3. Always be sure of your target and what's behind your target.
4. Keep your buger hook off the bang switch until you're ready to pull the trigger.

Exactly. Most outdoor ranges I have been to they just use cheap plywood.

You hope. A man was killed in an incident at an outdoor range on the north side of Houston 3 years ago. An employee of the range was working on a hunting rifle in the range shop. A customer pulled up and was getting out of his car when the employee accidentally discharged the rifle. Bullet went through the wall and struck him in the head. He couldn't even see the guy.

I look at online reviews. When I see people complaining about how strict, or what an a**hole, the range officer is, that's where I'm going to shoot.
