Got some very nice 3.5 year old bucks on camera. 2 of them have been showing up during daylight on the far south end of our property by our neighbors. One is a mainframe 9 with a couple cool stickers.

I’ve killed a mature 7 and my kids have both shot 10s so far. We don’t need the meat. Here’s my delima...

My neighbor will 100% kill these deer if he sees them. I would love to let them walk and see something really special next year. We’re getting close to the rut and these deer could go anywhere.

If I see them should I kill them or let them walk?

I've already let him walk. I'm not going to shoot him either.

If you kill them they won’t get any bigger. If you let them go there is a chance they can make it. I’ve done both but typically never at 3.5 usually 5.5 trying to get them to 6.5.

If you kill a deer JUST because your neighbor will shoot it, then you ARE the same neighbor - George Washington

OK. I'm kidding, but I just had a really high racked 3 year old 9 with some kickers go missing.

Hopefully he turns back up, but I've already given him a pass.

You do you, and don't worry about your neighbor.

This is true. It’s also a very nice deer. Would definitely be one of the better ones killed off this place.

Any other year I’d feel crazy for even thinking about letting it walk

Good chance the daylight sightings are close to being over. Let walk. You don't need the meat, not the horn. Easy decision IMHO.

Plus killing him just so you're neighbor doesn't, especially if you don't need the meat doesn't seem very sportsman to me, it's possible your neighbor needs the meat though.

If the deer makes you happy, kill it.

If it doesnt get you excited, dont

Then you should shoot the neighbor

Unless he's giving the meat to somebody that does eat it

Take a friends kid who hasn’t killed this year.

Typical rule for is- if you will mount it kill it. If it’s not big enough to go on the wall let him walk. Some make it some don’t.

If you have to think about it when he walks out, let him walk.

I’d mount it in a heart beat.

However, the thought of having a sure enough stud (125”+) next year is exciting.

It’s all crazy. We’ve picked up all our timber since the hurricane and are replanting next winter. Don’t know what’s going to happen with the deer. I just know we have more 3.5+ year old deer this year than ever before. Only thing I can think of is basically no one hunted last year with everything being a mess.

A little off topic, but what do you mean a “mess”. Are you about to lose a bunch of deer habitat or something?

If your neighbor shoots them and is happy about it why shoot them and be unhappy about it. Just hope for the best and that whoever shoots them, this year or next, is as happy and proud of them as you would be next year
