Need recs on a new Trolling motor for my 17ft Tracker
It came with a 45lb Minn Kota that sucks ass. Looking for a 55Lb 12v. Looking at the Minn Kota powerdrive 55. Don’t want the ipilot but wondering if the co pilot worth $140 upgrade?

i had the 45 and the 55 on my 1756 alweld but both were weak as shite and only worked with no wind at all or sheltered canals

if there was any wind or a tide i had to go in the same direction or i had to run trolling motor on high speed just to make any headway at all

i went get the motorguide 80lbs thrust and its perfect for my boat but its 24v setup so you will need another batter

if you fish anywhere other then sheltered fresh water canals you should get nothing less then 70-80 lbs

this...I went with the 70 lb Edge...
been fine for 8 years and still going strong...
when it finally bites it I'll go with the 80 lb fortrex...

trolling motor motto: get at least double what came on the boat.

i’d guess 55. i have a 70 on my 16ft xpress. a buddy has an 80 on his 17ft xpress.
i suggest you go at least 24 volt 70, assuming you have space under the rear deck for another battery.

Whatever you do make sure that it is self deploying.

I’m running a 70lb maxxum on my 16’ all weld, love it. As said, when the wind appears you’ll want more than a 55, more times than not.

Bite the bullet and get a 24v 70 lbs minn Kota.

I have a 70 lbs 24v minnkota edge on my 17’1” fiberglass bass boat and it does wonders over the 55 lbs motorguide that came on it. Would be even better on an aluminum boat.

Trust me you do. My boat (18’ aluminum) came with 70# maxxum (granted it was already set up for 24v) and I went with 80# Terrova.

Love it. Made fishing so much more enjoyable. Going from hand controlled to foot control was the biggest difference for me but couldn’t do without the spot lock now that I’ve had it.

I have a 55lb Terrova on a Xpress 16DBX and I promise you, not getting I-pilot is a huge mistake. Anchor lock is a game changer. You don't have to have it hooked for a graph for it to work either.
