Somehow the tip on my fly rod snapped while sitting in my garage. What is the best method to fix this or have it fixed? Its just a cheap Cabelas rod.

Place the broke tip next to the rod and tape with electrical tape.

Heat the tip, pull the broken piece.
Sand the rod to fit the tip
Glue it.

fly rod - Its just a cheap Cabelas rod.

there is no such animal, if its a "fly rod" then its going to be expensive

i had serious sticker shock when i decided to just buy all new rods to replace my 20 yr old fly rods, they cost around $20 back then, now they are $100+

that break is close to the tip so lightly sand it and as mentioned, heat the old tip with a lighter and it will come off. its hot glued on, so after you test it fits, hot glue it back on and its goos as new again

Call Cabelas and order that section of the rod. Might be under warranty.

Great idea, I will call them tomorrow and go from there.

Obviously this is a great scenario to upgrade but I cant justify it at the moment

Some they cover, some they don’t. Son had one that was discontinued. They sent him a comparable rod.

As said before, Bring it to a rod shop. They can fix it for cheap. They sleeve it and re epoxy, looks like new.

Update: Cabelas got back with me via email and told me to return the entire combo and they will replace it

I had talked myself into upgrading but I will make use of this combo and ask santa for some gear (wader boots, bag, etc)

Take it to cabelas and see if they wont warranty it. Almost all fly rod companies charge a flat $75 fee and will fix or replace pretty much any damage to a fly rod. I have sat on them, stepped on them, snapped them in doors, etc. The different companies always fix them or replace them for that $75 fee. If its not worth the fee just get a new one.

good to hear. I have a couple of fairly inexpensive Orvis rods and they are for others to borrow. If they break, Orvis replaces, no questions asked.

Pretty awesome.
