I currently have a 30-06 and 30-30. My oldest son prefers the .06 and my younger prefers 30-30. Next year my youngest will be old/mature enough to hunt his own stand. I prefer the 30-30 as well.

This past weekend while me and the boys were out hunting the wife saw 10 deer including a big buck off the back porch but she did not have a rifle to shoot.

I definitely will buy another 30-30, but I was wondering if she might prefer something like a .243. Does anyone's wife here shoot a 30-30?

How much recoil difference between the .270 vs 30-30?

Another factor is ammo. Right now I only need 2 types, not real excited about having to buy a 3rd.

.270WSM

I have the Tikka T3 .270WSM and it shoots extremely smooth.

7mm-08. My wife and my 9yr. old daughter shoots it in a Tikka T3 and they both handle it like a champ. Plus I love the heck out of it when I can pry it out of their hands

Then get one more in each of the rounds you have already. They all kill deer dead. Biggest thing is would she prefer a bolt to a lever?

It's hard to describe for me, but some of it depends on the gun.

Let me try.....A 270 is more of a sharp, snappy recoil, while a 30-30 is a deeper boom, but less recoil. Weird, but that's how I see it for the ones I have shot

Why not just let her shoot your 30-30?

Most logical answer actually.

Youngest son uses it. Next year he will hunt alone, so I will need a gun. Wife also needs a gun to hunt from the cabin porch.
