Our neighborhood is looking to clear watershield from around the dock area to make fishing off the dock feasible. We're probably too late for this year, but for next year, is it a good idea to use it as sort of a pre-emergent in the area? Does anyone have any experience or advice for using this product, specifically to knock back watershield?

Throw some Karmex in there and call it’s day.

I'd try the tripoid carp route first. They're sterile so they die off, but they bulldoze pond vegetation.

Lots of good literature out there on how to properly do it

Grass carp don’t eat watershield until it’s the last weed on the lake, ive been told.

Additionally, we want some of it... good habitat, we just want to clear the area around the fishing pier. Can’t train carp to eat some but not other.

Since karmex isn’t labeled for aquatic use, we cant use it.

Well, unless these plants grow from seed, I am not sure a pre-emerge is going to do it. Seems to me that you could treat with something now to control it. Beware that there are quite a few regulations surrounding chemicals in water areas. Might be a good one to hand off to a professional.

It’s not a true pre-emergent, I use that term for lack of a better one. It is a systematic/systemic herbicide. Labeled for use in the way I described. I am looking for opinions from people who have some knowledge or experience with its effectiveness. We’ve done other aquatic herbicide in the past with poor results.

Deeprig you may not trust me in politics. But I do treat some peoples ponds up here for watershield.
There is not really a pre-emergent type chemical that works honestly.
I would have to say you need to just spot treat it as it comes up.
You can hit it with some glyophosate in a product like Shoreline defense. Or you can use diquat dibromide as a herbicide but might take multiple treatments.
Other than that I got nothing else that works.

So Navigate 2,4D pellets won't suppress watershield?

Have you tried it, and it didn't work?

Ahhh didn't understand your question. I haven't needed to use it personally. Yet I have a couple of buddies who came out of NCState and swear by it for controlling/eliminating watershield.

were are you getting this from? I have so much grass in my pond, I could all most walk across it. I was hopping my pond would dry up some to dig it bigger. Just not happening.

i've used Renovate Max G on watershield successfully a few times. Very similar to navigate. It all depends on the flow in the pond and can b expensive.
How are you going to apply. Can be tricky from boat, smallest wake can wash off product and minimize effect.
I still get paid to do this, I use an aquatic glyphosate + surfactant + burner (diquat or other).

I can help u on rates if u want to go further. Just don't want to post public.

Sorry I missed this. Yes, I will take any info you can give me ! My junk email address is emaildawgrant@gmail.com

Renovate G does seem very similar to Navigate, sprinkled as granules. I would be applying from the dock itself and canoe if necessary. The X is the "spillway" so there is a tiny little bit of current here.
