My dad had to get rescued from his climber stand
My cousin just called me about to shite laughing. My dad is up hunting with him. My dad stays attached to the tree 100% of the climb. He climbed down to about 5 ft off the ground and decided it would be a good idea for a 70 year old man to jump the rest of the way. He forgot to unhook his tag line and got caught hanging with his feet about 2 ft off of the ground. Not sure how but he couldn't get a good hold on the platform to let off enough slack to unhook himself. He had to suck it up and call to get help after struggling for an hour.

The only damage done is to his pride.

I did that once but barely had enough slack for my toes to touch. I can see how this happens.

A poster on this board was hunting with me one day many years ago and was in a summit climber, pulled down hard on the hand piece overhead and it slipped and hit him in his head, he was dazed and confused for hours, still not sure if he ever fully recovered

Let’s not be laughing at 70 year old men who may or may not have done something a bit off center. If you all are lucky enough, you may get to join the ranks of us seasoned citizens one day. My hat is off to your Dad for still getting in a climber at our age. Glad that he is ok.

Laughing WITH is not the same as laughing AT.

He is pretty spry. Rides his bike about 100 miles per week. Former lsu track star.

Hunting with him is always an event.

Funny yes but from what I remember you could die if left hanging in a harness for too long. A harness can cutt off the blood at your legs and you die.

That’s why you have the relief strap.

We did a course with the tree stand manufacturers assc a while back. We stepped off a stand and hung. Not easy to recover.

FYI just a safety note, he should replace his harness now. When it stops someone it can become compromised for a future fall
