Why you never hike in cat/bear country without a gun or spray.

If you watch the video closely at the start the ML was trying to flee the other way but a jogger was coming down the trail towards him so he reversed direction and the video taker is in his way as well. Cat felt trapped between two larger possible predators so it went on the defensive...which was trying to scare the closer of the two “attackers”.
At least that’s what it seemed like to me

When he saw the babies he should have stopped immediately and gone the other way.

He missed a good chance to choke him down then finish him off with a rock.

Earlier is when that cat was pissed and bluff charging him.

Did you see how much ground she covered...in an instant?

Bending down and making yourself smaller would not have been smart the 1st 5 min imo.

What if you accidentally stumble while trying to quickly pick up a rock?

I would've done what he did but without the phone in my hand. Eta....I would've been much more vocal too. Much more pissed in my voice.

I think about a min before he throws a rock is when he could've attempted trying it. Any sooner is just a bigger risk. Better to wait it out at that point then screw up. His only advantage was being bigger.

"A cougar would never dare to attack me."

--how could you know that?

"I don't know that. IT knows that."

He did everything right other than filming the ordeal after mamma showed up.

A mountain lion has no interest in tangling up with a full grown person. She was extremely pissed and wanted him gone but if she thought she could whip his arse she'd have done it.

I pretty much agree. I would have been more vocal and much louder more often if it was me.

The keyboard warriors on the OT would mostly die by bending down (for a rock) in the first few minutes of this cat showing extreme pissiness.

Those bluff charges were no fricking joke....

This

Wandered up on a big one in a Little Wild Horse Canyon a few years ago. Surprised him and a pair of young big horn which were on the opposite side of where a narrow slot canyon opened up. He was about 20 feet up at 10 o'clock and I'd of been easy to mess with and completely unaware. Since I was still wondering why these sheep hadn't bolted. Guessing it would of been just one leap for him.

It was a Mexican standoff for a couple minutes, then both sheep walked off to one side and mister mountain lion the other way. I paused long enough to take it all in.

This guy should of gotten way concerned when he noticed the KITTENS, backed up, and not kept going. In a few minutes mamma would have hid the young-is and he could of gone on as normal. No guns required.
