I fish trout and reds with 14# test. What brands do you recommend? Is their much difference in brands in your opinion?

Ever consider a Copoly? I have been using P-Line CX Premium on reels I would normally use mono. It’s pretty damn good stuff.

ETA: Everyone will have their preferred brand. This is just my $.02. I also use Trilene XL on some reels.

Regular ol17# stren was always my go-to. Strong like winch cable and casts pretty good new. I imagine the 14 is just as good.

But now I use braid and I have no use for mono except as leader

i used to like dupont stren flourescent but to be honest i switched over to the cheap eagle claw stuff at walmart and it is stronger and breaks off much less and has much less stretch then stren does.

you dont need to overpay for a name brand, eagle claw is very good quality line and the 15lb spool is only $5 plus you get more yards from the spool then with stren

Ande 12 or 15 pound usually. Spec, reds, and the occasional bass fishing. Knock on wood, I've never lost a fish due to breaking off. Have been using it for at least 10 years.

This but in 12# test. I've put crazy pressure on 28 to 30 inch reds and can't break it. I do use a 20# fluorocarb shock leader tied directly to the 12# without a swivel.

Depends what you want.

Freshwater flip, pitch, spinnerbaits I use a XT line.
Line coils a lot when you spoil it put silicone on a cloth and spook it on. Takes the coils out. I use P-line cheap C21 or CXX. Strong and gets the job done. To keep coils down you got to work that line in. After a few cast the coils go away. You will appreciate it being more abrasion resistant.

Cranking- you may want a more relaxed line I use XL. Basspro extreme on sale, p line Fluor Coated, or any XL line.

Sometimes I think you're a contrarian just for the fun of it.

But I am not at all. It's not my fault that's Berkley's cheapest and worst line.

I'm sure that's what attracts most people to it. And it probably works plenty good enough for most people's use. But there's definitely better line out there. My dad is a huge fan of the stuff.
