Actually somewhat impressed based on the article it doesn’t appear they used traps or nets, that’s a shite pile of fish to catch rod and reel.
Anyone know the story it was on louisiana sportsman

Agents cited Timothy Jones, 60, of McComb, Miss., Ellis R. Martin, 57, of Summit, Miss., Thomas Firth, 56, of Tylertown, Miss., and Steven Riley, 59, of Gulfport, Miss., for over the daily limit of catfish. Agents also cited Clifton Clark, 44, Gulfport, Miss., and Riley and Jones for not possessing a non-resident basic fishing license.

Agents were on patrol responding to a complaint when they contacted the five on the Mississippi River levee just south of the Empire Locks actively fishing with rods and reels. Agents found them in possession of 665 blue catfish in multiple ice chests.

After further investigation, agents determined that Riley, Jones, Martin and Firth caught over the daily limit of catfish per angler. Riley, Jones and Clark also failed to purchase a non-resident basic fishing license.

Agents seized the 665 catfish and donated them to Hunters for the Hungry.

Damn! And those of us up in North country are limited to one blue cat at one yellow or Flathead cat per day with a maximum of two in possession.

Maybe they were just catching bait to chum for Hammerhead sharks.

I just had to look up the limit, it's 100 per day.

Had no earthly idea there was a limit on catfish in the Mississippi River. We could still be under a jail ..

Right? I have never heard of anyone going over the limit on catfish. I assumed there wasn’t one.

It’s a good thing they got caught before catching one more. There really would’ve been hell to pay…

It’s stupid high like 100 don’t remember if it’s per person or boat. Most people never catch enough at a time to come close to breaking it

11" to 12" size limit, but you can keep up to 25 undersized if I remember that correctly.
