Mini 14 and mini 30 are horribly inaccurate. Better off getting an AR for 223 or an AK for the 7.62x39

The Ruger ac556 is one of the cheapest full auto guns you can get.

Its on my list to get on day.

Just picked up a ruger Deerfield carbine in 44mag. Ready to see how it shoots.

It’s not. I got rid of mine because I don’t trust it to hit anything at 100 yards

Yezzir. They are like $10k. Not bad at all in the MG world.

Unless you shoot statistically insignificant 3-5 shot groups expect bulk 223/556 ammo to have an extreme spread above 3" even on the best of guns from a machine rest.

The older rifles were hit or miss. Due to the manufacturing process, and movement of the rifle constantly, they were either very accurate, or earned their minute of milkjug name.

The newer ones are accurate.

I have a mid 80s rifle which has no issues with 3inch groups at 260 yards, with a tasco scope.

Given I shoot marginally better groups with a bedded model 700 22-250 with a grand worth of glass on it, those groups are more indicative of the limitations of my eyes rather than the rifle.

The newer mini14s, anything 09 or beyond, will outshoot most shooters.

Never knew such a thing existed. Interesting.

I’m with a few others here and think you’d be better served with a Ruger AR556. It’ll be lighter, easier to mount optics, and will have better accuracy. But if you just want a Mini for the cool factor, I’m all onboard for that.

The older models had issues when their barrels heated up they would become horrible inaccurate due to barrel whip. The newer models have a thicker barrel and have better accuracy. Avoid the pencil barrel Mini 14’s. Look for the tapered barrel if looking to buy one. It is the thicker barrel.

I have one of the newer Mini 14 guns. I did add a strut. I have not played with accuracy too much but my gun will shoot 2 inch groups at 100 yards even when it heats up. It is a fun little gun but it is not a tack driver like an AR 15. I just put a red dot on mine. It chews through all ammo and even that cheap steel Russian bear ammo. I have the wood stock so it looks like a little hunting rifle when I have the flushing fitting mag in it. It is a nice/fun woods gun.

Here is a review on it by the famous Hickok45.

AR-15's are not tack drivers.
