Is it too early or has the weather too warm to locate typical migratory birds in Southwest Louisiana? I have only seen hummingbird thus far. I am rather new to bird watching.

Blue wing teal season has come and gone. Should be a big push of new ones into the area this week.

If you don't already, start following Louisiana Birds and Birdwatching on Facebook. You'll see pics posted when things are really happening.

It's pretty much the peak of fall migration now. Last weekend I hit St. George Island and had 14 warbler species. If you need some places to bird check eBird for hotspots near you.
As mentioned, the day after a cool front is best. Or if there were storms overnight. Most of this week has been really slow.

Where I duck hunt down on the coast there are bald eagles everywhere. You guys would jizz yourself. They are active too. I’ve had one come down and attack a decoy. Had another chase a cripple for a while, and eventually made the catch. Pretty awesome bird

There's a bald eagle nest about 1/4 mile from my house and they've come back to reclaim it after being gone all summer. They fly right over the house on the way to catch fish in the bay. Always awesome to see them. They've been successful with nesting for the last 4 years and when the youngsters get big the parents are hauling quite a few fish.

Woodies are down in big numbers already. Two roost holes and the creeks were we hunt are loaded.

The eBird information will be very helpful. I made a trip to Peveto last spring and will return based on the sightings provided. Thanks.
Many years ago I learned duck identification when the point system was established but I thought most all of the small birds were sparrows. Call it a new hobby, I suppose, to supplement my long-time interest in plant taxonomy.
Warblers and the smaller songbirds are a tough ID for rookies like me an my wife but we now have a scope that will be an advantage.

This site might help with warbler ID's. The best tip is to start with the head pattern.
Warbler ID
Peveto Woods was very good the two times I made it there. Any place with lots of oaks next to the ocean. Birds stop there before making the Gulf crossing in the fall. In the spring they are worn out from the crossing and stop at the first trees they can find (assuming there isn't a strong south wind). High Island Texas is a few hours beyond Peveto Woods and can be pretty incredible on a good day. Same for Dauphin Island and I've heard good things about Grand Isle.
