I know there was a thread this summer about these grills. Can I get some reviews since then? How are they holding up?

Mine is still ok staying under my patio with no cover.

The piece under the grill where the heat travels is starting to rust and I am thinking about getting a guy that does stainless work for me to duplicate it in stainless before it gets too bad. I don’t take great care of it so not surprising that it is rusting.

Not bad. I’m thinking I’ll get 2-3 years out of it. Maybe more. It took a little getting used too, and I did a couple mods you see all over the net, but I’m really liking it. Basically, you get the flavor of charcoal with the convenience of a gas grill. I’m happy with it.

That’s what I’m looking for. I’ve been cooking on a Weber performer since 2014.

If it's $500 and you're only looking at 2-3 years, I would avoid it. Get a Vision egg with the gas attachment. It'll last longer in my opinion.

I don't have the Masterbuilt, but I bought the Green Mountain Daniel Boone a few months back. It's basically just taking up space in my garage because no matter what I've tried, I simply can't replicate anything close to the "flavor of charcoal" with it.

Based on conversations with friends and threads on this board, I'm apparently one of the few who don't like pellet grills. I will readily admit that they are very convenient. But based on my personal experience with them, I'll take charcoal or wood all day every day. I'll pick flavor over convenience every time.

We have a pellet grill at work, and the damn thing is always clogging/jamming. We have to clean out all the pellets every use, or the humidity ruins them. That takes away the convenience factor, so I am not a fan either. Looking hard at this Masterbuilt 560 for Christmas.

I was pointed to Broil Kings from the OB.

They are made in canada and are comparable to Webers.

Solid construction. Huge stainless burn tubes.

Mine has done very well.

I bought one to replace a pellet grill. I had consistent issues with the humidity turning the pellets into concrete like substance. I like it better than the pellet. I have found the temp control runs a little low. I bought the cover from MB and keep it covered.

You can grill on it much easier than a pellet since it gets up to 700 degrees. Also not as many moving parts as the pellet and much easier to clean. The pull out pad and grease trap make cleaning it pretty easy.

There are a couple of threads on the Food & Drink Board. I am very interested and it will be my next purchase when my Oklahoma Joe dies. If you commit to it let us know how it goes.

Thread 1

Thread 2

Thread 3

Also, it looks like they added an 800 as a medium between the 560 and 1050. Comes with a flat griddle insert which would be neat.

I paid $300 on clearance at WM. They actually sold a few as low as $200. Use Brickseek.com to find deals. I had a Traeger that worked great, but pellet smoke isn’t charcoal or wood smoke. Always smelled more like burning plywood to me.

What happens to the unused charcoal at the end of the cook?

It has 2 metal slats that you pull out to let air flow from the charcoal chamber to the cooking chamber. Once you're done cooking you put them back in place and it cuts off all air to the charcoal box stopping the burning of the charcoal.

I have had a pellet smoker since 2013 and a stick burner before then. If the bugs get worked out this may be another option in the near future. I would have to see if I could rig a rotisserie with it or not. I love my rotisserie on my GMG pellet smoker.

MB makes a rotisserie kit for it
