Marsh Hunters: Waterfowl Clothing...
The time has come for a new hunting system. What is everyone wearing this season (Jackets, bibs). I hunt mainly in the South Louisiana marshes, but occasionally head to North Texas. Looking for something to keep me decently warm but is also waterproof. Not looking to spend Sitka type of money.

I love the Columbia wader widget II jacket. I’ve hunted with it from Canada to Louisiana to snow storms in oklahoma. That with some neoprene waders and layers should versatile enough to get you through anything. A low profile, well concealed blind and being still is infinitely more important than what Camo you have on

I've been using the same pair of frog tog waders for many years. They are a little thick for the temperatures on Catahoula Lake but they work well. Hunted in south La in some fields and on Irish Bayou with them some too. Although the timber camo pattern sticks out a little down south. Really though as noted above, if the blind is brushed well the camo patterns shouldn't really matter too much.

Rain gear Is fine 90% of the time, it doesn’t get that cold here generally. Just wear layers

Sitka is worth the money and will last longer than the cheap temporary fix you're looking for.

Ehh i beg to differ Ive had the same Browning Dirty Bird ($250) Jacket for 10+yrs. I doubt id want to be wearing the same Sitka Jacket for 20+ years.

Sitka is top quality performance gear for the long term. What I like the most is their customer service when it comes to maintenance and repairs. They will take care of you and your gear so it doesn't end up in a landfill anytime soon.

That said.... it's so damn expensive and I completely understand why people shake their head at it. If you have the means, I wouldn't completely write it off. If you commit to having gear for a lifetime, it actually can be the more economical choice.

That's great to know about browning, but $250 ain't cheap either. Some of the Sitka jackets arent far off from that price.

I have a pair of Magellan bibs and a thick Magellan jacket that Ive had for 7 years now and got the whole rig for less than $100. Have worn them on every hunt when weather permitted and even wear the bibs to the woods sometimes because they are so dam comfortable and warm.

I have no doubt that Sitka quality is better than Magellan, but the narrative that cheap stuff won’t last is fake news.

Maybe so. I too have old arse cheap gear that still works. And to your point Sitka is awesome but it is by no means a must have. Just think a lot of ppl wave it off too often without considering the benefits because it's too expensive but they'll go blow their money on something else.

Feel bad for the OP. Just came here lookin for answers and he got what was expected: the ole Sitka debate.

I got excited for a second, the cheapest waterproof Sitka is $400. I have nothing against Sitka and have no doubt it is high quality gear. I just can't convince myself to spend that type of coin.

Sorry dude, I checked and thought I saw one for cheaper but probably wasn't waterproof. I'll take a lap.

I totally get that you don't want to drop $400 on a jacket but I have no complaints about the quality and performance. If you know any guides they usually have discount codes... fyi

I use the Cabela's First Flight waders that are versatile; you can use them when the weather is warm and layer when the weather is cool/cold. I also have a Redhead 3-in-1 parka that's held up fairly well.

Beretta makes fantastic duck hunting coats. Or they used to. Got one about 12 years old. Perfect still

Sadly Columbia doesnt make any hunting clothes anymore because of stupid hippie crap

Also... there's gotta be some good quality stuff out there that isn't super expensive if you look outside of hunting brands. You don't need camo if you're covering up properly, sit still and wear the right tones. I barely used camo last season tbh.
