Anybody have any experience with these? I'm thinking of getting one for my truck. Is there any down side to this? Does it reduce the life of anything on the truck or does it solely just give it a deeper growl?

Too loud for a pick up truck when you are in the cab. Sounds fine on an SUV.

I just want something to make it sound better at idle/start up. i dont want it to make ridiculous noises when I'm driving so i sound like every mustang.

I had some magnaflows on a 2004 5.4 f150. Very mellow rumble at idle, and nice sound when WOT. I had the regular mufflers which aren't aggressive at all. As a matter of fact they bordered on being too quiet, but I liked them at the time.

What kind of truck?

I put the flow master super10 on my 2015 Sierra and love it. Not to loud and sounds great at idle and start up

I have one on my Sierra. Gives it a nice deep rumble at startup. For around town driving, its not really noticeable until you mash the skinny peddle to the floor.

I have one on my truck. They are pretty much the only company that makes a 2 into 1. Sounds a little louder than a Denali at idle, but louder when I'm on it (not too loud though).

My truck drones between 1850 and 2k, but the 6.0 tends to do it with any aftermarket exhaust

You can do that without the annoying drone or getting that crackling racket but you need chamber volume in the muffler to do it. Need to measure the factory muffler and get an approximate volume. I have a #12673 on my truck and I should have gone with dual #14716's when I put on the long tube headers and deleted the cats. Another option is the baffle type mufflers which do a better job on the noise.

I have a Flowmaster 50 catback system on my 2010 Yukon Denali. It's got a great sound at startup and under heavy acceleration. But at highway cruising speeds and at idle it's pretty quiet.

I don't know a ton about the Magnaflow systems but it at least appears to me to be a glasspack in the shape of a muffler. Flowmaster does true muffler designs as opposed to just glasspacking it. Then again I haven't shopped for a Magnaflow in a long time.

Yes. Had the duel chamber system on an old 5.0. I loved the sound. Not straight pipe type shite with no catalytic converter

I used to worry about sounding fast.
Now, my truck can be whisper quiet as long as it hauls arse.

A muffler doesn't know if it's welded to a pickup or an SUV, or a 600 horse muscle car.

There is far less drone from a through style muffler such as a magnaflow when compared to a chambered muffler such as your typical flowmaster.

Magnaflow mufflers are slightly similar to glasspacks, but are not glasspacks. They are filled with an acoustical sound deadening material, but it's not the same as the stuff you'd find in a cherry bomb/thrush/purple hornie style old school glasspack. Glasspacks burn out over time and use, while magnaflow and similar mufflers from other manufacturers (dynomax, spintech, borla, gibson, etc) have developed materials that are very resistant to deterioration.

Nearly all manufacturers offer configurations for many applications, with differences in inlet/outlet diameter and quantity. Magnaflow is not the only, or even one of the only mfr's with dual inlet/single outlet offerings.

In the same way, there are various case sizes and shapes, like round case/oval case, and anywhere from 12" length up to and beyond 24" length. Figure that the bigger the case, the more sound will be "muffled" out.

There is an entire scientific discipline to this, and the information I've posted barely scratches the surface. If there is a certain sound you're going for, listen to clips on youtube, making sure to note the specifics, because other factors also determine the sound coming from the tailpipe (manifolds/headers, catalytic converters, pipe diameter, etc). If you hear one in person that you like, ask the owner to tell you what he's running.

Reminds me of high school. I had a glasspack on my 1995 S10 Blazer ZR2. So bad arse. There's probably not a good way to quantify how much arse that thing got me.

As I recall, you're supposed to get them good and hot and run a cold waterhose in there to break out the sound dampening material.

You must not be from LA? Having a loud arse exhaust makes you more of a redneck than a douche. On a scale of 1-10, having headers, no CC's, and glasspacks or just straight pipes is a sure 10. Magnaflows might be a 4 baw.

I used to be indifferent towards modified exhaust. Then I moved into a shop where my next door neighbor has a dyno where the bay faces my shop, now I fricking hate the sound.
