Is there a worse feeling as an outdoorsman? I made a pretty uncomfortable shot a few weeks ago at 40 yards. My body was all twisted up and I probably shouldn’t have shot. But we never see big bucks like that and I took my shot. Buck ran off and not a drop of blood found. I assumed I missed after 3 hours of looking and no deer.

Well we just got word today that our neighbors found a monster laying dead in a creek 2 weeks ago and I want to throw my guts up now. This will be my learning lesson now. Sucks a deer like that went to waste

This is him. The man was nice enough to atleast send a picture. Said he would try and get the horns to me

It sucks. But, shooters shoot.

You didn't go there to pull off the easy, sometime you have to do your best.

Did you get the skull? I understand the disappointment on the meat going to waste,.

It happens.

I shot one about 6 years ago. Deer bucked, fell down got up and ran off. Never found blood nothing. I felt like never hunting again.

Just have to move on.

Been there Bro, shot a 10pt at 30 yard clean pass through shot. Blood at where he was standing and nothing after. Got a dog, still nothing. Son was hunting wood ducks in one of our creeks and found him 3weeks later

The old neighbor found him. He said I could have the horns if I wanted them. Don’t know him at all so I don’t know if he will actually do it or not

A couple of weeks ago I took my first bow shot at a buck, heard it hit and had a little blood on arrow, but couldnt find any blood on the ground. Looked around for an entire day and never found anything.

Happy ending though, saw him on cam a couple days ago! Must have just nicked him. Probably the happiest ive been getting a trail cam pic, felt sick to my stomach everytime I thought about him until i got that pic.

Unless it’s a state record I’m sure he will let you have them.
Yeah it sucks to lose one but like I tell my kids,, it’s a game of inches and if your hunting in the woods not open fields things happen fast.
Hopefully you get them just for a memento

I learned to always go check any water, no matter the depth, in those situations. Relative shot a big 10 and couldn’t find him. A week or so later, he walked by a slough and saw horns sticking up above the water. Apparently his body was hung up enough for his body not to bloat above the water line.

I can’t speak for him, but horns from someone else’s deer I didn’t kill would mean absolutely nothing to me. Unless maybe my dads or brothers or something.

Turns out the buck ran about 50-60 yards into the neighboring property. We walked that area until we ran up on a stand with trail cams literally right on our property line. So we stopped there and started going wider in our search. All we had to do was walk straight 30 more yards and we would have found him

Rules of thumb, always Check water and when everything in your bod tells you to give up go 50 more yards

I found a big 11 pt a few years back that I’m sure someone was sick over. Twisted his head off and made a beautiful skull mount. But I always tell that I found it while squirrel hunting.

I know you’re disappointed but you should go get it.

Someone else may know a better way but I downloaded the imgur app. Uploaded to there and clicked on the picture until it said copy link. It ends in jpeg. Go to post and click img and paste the link on it.

Man that sucks. My son shot at a cow horn spike Saturday morning and we looked all over and found nothing. Really hoping for a clean miss. I will check the creek drains harder New Year’s Day. He was heart broken. I gut shot the biggest deer of my life when I was 12-13 yrs old we pushed him too early and never found him. Just a pool of blood where we jumped him.
