Deciding between a Springfield 45 xd or a glock 41. Recommendations? Maybe a better gun? Looking to spend 500-600

5.25" barrel Competition Series XDM is a tack driver for a pistol.

Deciding between a Springfield 45 xd or a glock 41.
a. Think hard about 9mm. Today's good 9mm cartridges (like HST, Ranger-T, DPX) have excellent terminal ballistics (almost equivalent to the .45 ACP), have less recoil than the .45 (so you get quicker follow-up shots), and cost a lot less than .45 ACP (so you can practice more).
b. Assuming similar sized weapons, the 9mm version will hold more ammo than a .45 ACP version.
c. The top-tier manufacturers for SD weapons are gonna be Glock, Smith & Wesson (M&P, not the latest version of the Sigma), SIG & H-K. Some of the Berettas are good (if you can stand the "upside down" slide-mounted manual safeties), as are some of the Walthers (I'd avoid all the Walthers with the "upside down" manual safety and, personally would avoid the models with the paddle mag release).
d. Most folks are gonna learn quicker and shoot better with a DAO (double action only) trigger instead of a DA/SA (double action/single action). These will be "stock" on the Glocks and the M&P's -- you'll have to look/ask for this on most of the the SIGs and HK's (DAK and LEM triggers).
Just my $.02 worth.

You seem extremely knowledgeable, could you recommend me 5 models that you think would fit my needs? I prefer a full sized model, not overly big but decent size hands. I don't plan on conceal carrying with this one, this will be my night stand/ target shooting pistol. If I'm asking too much, I understand, I just don't have much pistol experience and your terminology was a bit up there

Bought my first pistol last year. Got the XDM 9mm. Absolutely zero regrets. It's an amazing weapon.

I have 1 in .40 - I'm considering converting to 9mm, as I now have a P226. It is my second favorite pistol, after the P245.

Among the other fullsize 9mm recommendations I'd add the new Ruger American 9mm for consideration.
