Do any of you own one and would you recommend it?

It fits me the best. It’s not too big or too small.

I had one and loved it. Only reason I sold it was because it flooded in 2016 and wanted to get rid of everything that got wet. Sold it and bought a larger Liberty.

I 100% recommend getting a keypad over a dial.

I would want the keypad and light kit for sure.
What about a dehumidifier?

I have a Golden Rod and its fine. I got a larger one than whats called for, but again, no problems with it either.

Absolutely get a dehumidifier…and I’d put a tub of the damp rid in it to see if it keeps all the humidity out (mine doesn’t).

I doubt most do. Guns have been kept in closets for generations. I figure any moisture that I pull out of the air in the safe is ahead of the game. If the safe is kept outside or in extra humid areas, this does not apply.

Buying the golden rod.

Can you put more than one rod in? I don’t have many guns(like 10) but they are expensive. I don’t want any moisture

You can add as many as you'd like. Keep an eye on the ambient temp, but everything should be fine.

They make a humidity gauge that you can mount in the safe. There are ideal ranges to try to keep it in.

Never heard of a safe being too dry however.

Too dry? I though the same thing until my buddy said too low of a RH would dry out the stocks on my rifles.

Liberty makes garbage safes. Thin metal with particle board filler to make it all look thick. Also don't get the keypad unless you are cool with the possibility of it malfunctioning and having to drill your safe open.

Unless you spend waaay more than what the op mentioned…they are pretty much all equally garbage. Including mine.

But I’m looking to make it hard on a thief who left his cutting torch or wrecking bar at home…and some fire protection.

Given enough time and effort…nothing will stop a determined thief.

I bought a Sentinel (by stack on) on a hellava sale from Dicks about 10 years ago. It's keep, but works great. If has a key for when the digital pad malfunctions (they all will). No common house burger getting it in unless they have hours and hours or move it off site. Most burglars are "smash and grab."

On thing to consider, gun safes actually hold half the rifles they claim.

What's your recommendation in the same price range? Because to avoid what you are claiming, you're at a 5k minimum safe.

For anything in the RSC category, Liberty is at the top.

Best deal in the business is Sturdy Safe. You are at least getting thicker plate steel and a better lock mechanism.

Liberty is fine for what it is, but I hate the cosmetic tricks they use to make their products look more robust than they really are. Almost all cheap safe makers use these tricks.

Those cost 2-3x what a Liberty cost and are still a RSC, not a true safe.

Ill check them out more in the morning, but Id love to compare dollar to dollar against my Liberty Colonial.

With all this security, why doesn't Sturdy Gun Safe just get the UL RSC I Rating anyways?

Or Better yet, the new UL RSC II rating?

The answer is extremely high costs which would need to be passed down to the customer and it still wouldn't be saying as much about the security of the gun safes as the torture videos prove.

In conclusion, the UL RSC I Rating is simply a low standard security rating for long gun safes that might come in handy when comparing low end safes to each other, but not higher end security safes like Sturdy.

Delivered. Installed. Should have bought the 64 instead of the 48. Humidity is around 45% after 24 hrs. Should it drop anymore with the 12” golden rod?
