Been following OB for a while but this is my first post so be gentle. We have a home on 5 acres and would like to place a metal building or barn in yard. This would serve as a shop on one end and a apartment for my son later in life. He has Autism and would like to provide an independent living area for him but have him close enough to help if he needs any help.

Any suggestions about style, size and plans? Also, if anyone has any recommendations on fabricator and/or assembly crew that would be great. Thanks in advance!

I am looking at doing the same thing in the future. I called mueller last week and they gave me a rough quote of:

$9-$12 Sqft for the building
$4 sqft for erecting
$6 sqft for foundation.

I'm not sure what it costs to build out a metal building. I am using $50/ft until I nail it down a little more.

Eta: mueller is on the west side of the river, so they aren't far. Their website has pictures of custom buildings that might help you decide on what you want.

They sent me an email with suggested contractors if you want me to forward it to you.

He also sent me someone they like for design, I guess he does a lot of metal building/living quarters homes.

You can put it up here. I would create a junk email and list that one.

Reed's Metals. I think they have an office in BR. Their best design guy is named Ira. He's been doing it for 35 years. If you can get him on the phone, he might be helpful.

I'm building a similar ShOuse as they call it.

I got carried away but decided to go pole barn design.

I plan to post a massive thread later when complete.

I just had a pole barn built by Mallet Buildings. 30' x 30x' with two 12 foot roll up doors. Including, building material , concrete, and building erecting for $15,500. Which comes out to 17$ per SF. The one advantage to a poll barn vs metal building, it is easier to attached walls and other items you plan to build out than it is to steel. From the outside it looks identical to a metal framed building.

This company is based out of the Lake Charles area, but they traveled to the Baton Rouge area to deliver and erect this building

highly recommend Mallet Buildings. They just finished my 24 x 36 with concrete, gutters, roll up doors and insulted for ~ $19 sq ft. Would recommend to anyone. First class from day one to finish.

Mallet just finished mine as well-

40x52 (12' wing on one side)- poured the concrete on Friday.

100% first class from start to finish- their process is flawless.
