I’m new to deer hunting and recently bought a tikka t3 and I was looking to spend around $500 on a scope for it. Would I be going wrong with a leupoid vx-3i 4.5-14x50mm?

No. They work fine. I would say a Meopro in the same mag range but they are like $250 more. If you are set with that mag range, it's fine. If you are fine going 3-9X50 you can get a Meopta Meopro for like $500.

Do you really need 14x for deer hunting?

A 3x9 would be plenty. I’m just trying to figure out what to get for that price range or if I should up my price range a little more?

I would go with the 3.5-10x40 over that one. It's cheaper, mounts lower to the gun, lighter, and more compact. You don't need the larger objective for light gathering or the extra magnification for deer hunting. Do a little research on it.

3-9X50 Meopta Meopro is great.
This Leica is on sale. They are great too.

Put a vx3 3.5-10x40 on my new rifle. That sucker is sweet. Can't go wrong with a leupold.
