I have a basic ruger AR-15. I'm looking for a basic 1x4 scope for max 75 yard shots. I don't need to spend $400 on a leupold.

Im not familiar with AR scopes so should I stick with the basic Nikon and bushmaster?

If you're shooting a maximum of 75 yards you could consider a red dot depending on what you intend to do with the gun.

I don't even use the gun all that much. Simple backyard shooting and coon control. I hunt some very close quarter deer areas where a small gun is ideal and the furthest shot is 50-75 yards max so I may start using this gun.

I have one set up similar to what youre doing and I used a nikon P-223. It's a fixed 3x and it's pretty nice Lil scope. I've shot a few pigs inside 100 yards with it, I think it was around $175?!

I also have a P223. I didn't like it at first but it has grown on me.

Nikon sport opticsMy wife gave me a Nikon P223 for Christmas. I haven't mounted it yet. It looks like a nice scope.

I'd CALL Palmetto State Armory, or a similar vendor, & ask their advice; after having viewed their Optics on-line.

This should be inexpensive.

PSA always has a variety of excellent deals, especially around the holidays.

I'm with others here - a low power optic from Nikon, Bushnell, Vortex, or Redfield would be a good basic magnified optic.

I would stick with something variable-power rather than a scope with fixed magnification. I'm a bit partial to the Redfield Revolution line since I have one on my AR and it has been excellent. You can get a 2-7x by 33mm one on Amazon for $159 - has excellent reviews too.
