Needs some recs on something classy and high end for a nice gift. Area available for engraving would be a plus. Thanks.

Price range? Pocket clip or no? How many blades? Bone, wood-look, metal, carbon-fiber?

When I think "Classic" I think Case. Really good knives. Carbon blades will patina nicely and I think they can be engraved.

Let's say keep it under $500, no clip, 1 or 2 blades, bone or wood-look.

I was thinking something kinda similar to a case.

The Benchmade mini Crooked River is now on their custom option page too. If you really want something unique that would be a good option.

So, you weren't fricking around when you said "high end" - I would get a Chris Reeve then.

I carry the Case Mini Trapper in "amber". It was about $35. I love it.

This one:

Full disclosure - I have the disease - "knives" - I've kept it in check for a while, but I opened a knifeworks account about 6 weeks ago - a development that concerns Mrs. Midnight greatly.

Anyway, I'm trying to stay on the hedonic treadmill on the low side, sticking with cheap knives (we're in a cheap knife Renaissance right now - fantastic knives are available in the $25 to $50 dollar range in almost every possible configuration). However, for mid-tech, Chris Reeve is where it's at. Sure you can spend $1200, $1500, $5000 on a custom knife, but at the $400/$500 (or a little more), CRK are legendary for a lot of good reasons.

Are they overpriced? Sure. But so are the mid-$100/mid-$200 Benchmade and Spyderco knives. Are CRK the closest you can get to handmade/one-of-a-kind in a "production" knife? Absolutely.

i just picked the first page on google but i could imagine some are verified by third parties. i haven't gotten legit WM scales yet because i'm worried about getting duped as well.

idk why but there is something very attractive to me about carrying a knife with 10k to 100k year old handles on it.

I have a Hen and Rooster Stockman that I really love. No where close to $500 but more than the Case. Great knife.
