new to the area, are there any places that sell live gold fish or buffalo for bait in the Lafayette area? I've called a couple places they all only sold shiners/cricket/worms

TIA

How far? Industrial in Ville Platte does. Friend of mine brought some for us to set lines with last weekend.

They were small though.

They had a thread on this last year. Apparently it's just one of those 'laws' that are falsely spread so much they become true in the minds of the masses.

PetSmart or Petco but don't tell them what they are being used for or they won't sell them to you. May need to send a smurf in if you want a large supply, have some OE8's iced down in that fake yeti for them.

Two things: 1/ Buying 100 goldfish is suspect. 2/ Goldfish suck. Carp/buffalo are the way to go. Catch them when draining crawfish lakes.

That's why i suggested using a Smurf. Anymore than 25 and those tree huggers gonna get suspicious an start axing leventy million questions. They refused to sell my wife goldfish for a school fair until she told them i bought dog food in large quantities.

I know it's not in the fishing regulations but I always thought that releasing non native species was a no no

There is a lot of confusion, including enforcement.

Years ago around Alec (Red River) a game warden told a cousin of mine that he could use the buffalo but he had to kill em first..

He was like, "What's the point of going through trouble of having an aerater etc."

Bream is legal too. I am not positive but have often heard they can be used if caught with a hook, not in nets.

Spotted cats, yes. They mainly feed on live bait.

fwiw, I can't stand the taste of saltwater fish.
