Lifetime License for kids

Okay, I'm starting to get my stuff together to get a license for my youngin's, and I have a few questions.
1. Have they bumped up the minimum age for the lowest cost level? I thought you had to get it in by their 2nd birthday, but the website says 4 years old and younger.
2. They ask for an original birth certificate, and say it will not be returned if sent by mail. What the frick is up with that? I just may need that thing again at some point in my child's life. Or will a notarized copy of the original do?
Thank you for your consideration.

As far as the age, no idea. I got mine for my boy when he turned 1. I dont think I sent an original copy of the birth cert. I want to say I sent a copy of it and a copy of his SS card and that worked. Hope this helps

You need to send the original. They are easy to get. Go to the courthouse, I think they are $27 each but that may have been for 2 (usually have to pay in cash).

From the Ouachita Parish Clerk of Court website:

Birth Certificates are issued between the hours of 9:00 am to 2.:00 pm
We can only print certificates for the State of Louisiana.
Birth Certificates $ 24.00 cash only
Birth Cards $ 14.00 cash only
You must have valid picture identification
Minors must have mother or father apply for their birth certificates.
To obtain a copy of a birth corticate for someone other than yourself, you must be a relative of that particular pers

In the same boat. Don't remember what I sent for my son. But have the app filled out and waiting for my daughter.
The app says "original certified." Someone told me to get it at the Health Unit in town. If you send the original, then you won't get it back. I think an original certified is a mini-card that is imprinted with a seal.

I would not do it. I bought one for my kid. Now that he is old enough, he hates fishing.

Clyde thanks for the reminder I meant to do this a few months ago and forgot.

You may as well move to Kansas.

I sent copies for my two kids and they took them.

Do it before they are 5 and it's $200 for hunting and fishing.
I stopped by the main office on Quail Drive with all paperwork in hand and they made a copy of the birth certificate and gave me the original back. Got the card in less than a month

Wouldnt worry for now. Things change. He may end up knocking Bill Dance off his perch.

I did mine in person so no help...
However I think it's a good gamble on your kids using them at some point in their lives.

Hell for 200 bucks, its worth the chance for your children IMO.

I hope you're kidding. It's only $200. It's worth the gamble if he/she only goes hunting or fishing once every couple years, it's still worth it

I sent in a certified copy for each of mine but as others have said, you can go to the main office if you don't want to go through that hassle.
I think it was previously $100 for 0-2 years at some point. I guess that has changed

This is what I did for my grandson. Was $200 before the age of two for hunting and fishing. He is going on 5 now.

I bought one for all three of my children.
You are right the cut off age for the rate increase is now 4 yrs old.
You should send in an original birth certificate. I went to vital records and purchased extras to send in to LDWF.
They will send your child a certificate with their name on it after it goes through. They will not get their license until the complete hunter safety course after age 10. They were really quick when i did our last one about two years ago. I think it only took about 2 weeks.
