Let’s try this again: How to stop a dog from scratching the door

I have (I think) a boxer/Doberman mix thats a good dog, a little dumb, but good. He’s very protective when people approach but wants to be a lap dog once you get in the house.
I’ve recently started to let him free roam while we are at work and everything is great except any time we get a package at the door he does his usual go nuts, slam against the door, and act like he wants to take your face off. He’s scratching the front door to hell.
I’ve tried correcting the behavior (and will still try, but like I said he’s a little dumb) but is there anything I can do short term to keep him from getting to the door?
The OT was as helpful as expected.

I see this went well on the OT.

Get a collar and shock his arse every time he does it. Have your wife or kid go around once a day and ring the door bell. If he does it, shock his arse. It won't take long for him to get the idea, dumb or not.
I'm not one to shock a dog just to shock them, but a shock collar plus treats have been great for my lab. He gets popped when he does wrong, and treats when he does right.

I messed up and went and bought a pretty pricey electric fence system because he’s a flight risk as well or I would have already bought the shock collar.
Guess I could throw it up on FB marketplace and see if I get any bites since I haven’t installed it yet.

You still have to work with the dog either way. You can't just throw it on and expect them to figure it out. Set the fence to it's lowest setting. Set up flags at the boundary, and then walk the dog to it. When the collar beeps, pull the dog back and say no. Walk him up and let him get popped on the low setting so he knows what it is. From then on, walk him up to it once or twice a day and pull him back when it beeps. He'll get it after some work.
The shock collar from the front door is more of a field collar. You can pop him with a remote when you want. Again, reward him when he does good. Pop him when he does bad.

Sounds like the time jehovas witness came to the house. He went absolutely ballistic and by the time I got to the door the 2 ladies were shaking. They mumbled something about God, handed my a pamphlet then took off.
They never did come back...damn shame

Yeah I know. I plan on working with him on staying in the perimeter once I install they system, just waiting on dirt work to finish up in the new house.
I was just saying that as the reason I haven’t gotten the shock collar to teach him not to jump at the front door.

My favorite dog ever was a Catahoula cur.
I tried the electric fence. No matter what I tried, if she wanted to get out the yard she would approach the fence nervously, hesitate at the flags, grit her teeth and haul arse through it, and yelp when she got popped. Same thing when she came home. I just gave up.

My dog is an outside dog now after 7 years of being inside. He wasnt happy about it so doors were a target. I used a buried electric fence around the house temporarily so he would get lit up at the doors. They make pads you can put down that will shock his feet if this is happening inside.
I tried using the remote control shock collar and it worked....when I was home.
Here is one of the pads on Amazon

I believe they make a pad that you put on the floor that hurts their paws when they step on it. It is used to keep them from getting on furniture. You can maybe figure out a way to stick it to your door.

Be at home.
Have someone come to front door.
Catch him in the act and spank him with a firm “no” in a deep, loud voice

Clear lexan panel placed on the door, will protect the door.
