Depends on how much the water is moving. If its relatively calm, a brick will suffice. If there's a good current, you may need a good weight.

Ill prob be in the river so I plan on a big weight.

Suspended between trees or dead end at a weight with a float?

Suspended is the way I've always done it.

I'm thinking it may be easier by myself if I deadend it at a weight going from the bank out in the river

Wingspan between hooks and a foot to foot and a half on hook lines. How concerned should I be with getting my weight to the bottom?
3 hook...chicken hearts and gold fish.

Suspended between trees or stumps is the only way to go.

What type of fine can you get slapped with if caught?

I experimented with this some last year and was pleasantly surprised. I plan to use that method more.

None. Just don't let any extra ones loose in the water.

I love me some sweep the kitchens

OP I'd think tied between trees would be easier alone as you can use the line to control your boat with. once you get your dead weight off bottom you'll be fighting the wind, current and boat while trying to unhook fish and bait hooks. Bait with lil breams.

I had a thread on bait a while back.

Ivory soap is legit. Works best in murky water.
