I am in no position to actually have one of these myself but I thought it’d be a fun topic. For most people a simple safe is probably all they need but I’d be curious if anyone has seen anything in the full room caliber that’s pretty cool.

If one were to put a gun room in their house and do it right, what would they need to do? This is of course going above simply dedicating a spare bedroom with a deadbolt or two on the door to storing firearms on the walls.

What could you do to really secure the room that maybe any regular guy with a little disposable income could do?

I built a hidden room behind a bookcase and threw some Gallow Tech on the wall.

I’ve got my safe in there for my expensive stuff and keep my cheap stuff on the gallowtech to save room in my safe.

I’m looking for property now to buy.

We will be a few years from building anything but my FIL has a bank vault that I will put in some place if the house.

When Covid hit last year I had some extra time to work on my gun room. When I built the home I had made a lower cabinet to hold my guns but I needed more room so I redid the configuration.

The bookcase was originally my grandparent, it was turned into a built-in when I originally built the room.

Staple hog wire to the walls. Put a layer of sheetrock. Then do it 3-4x.

If someone tries to cut in, their saw will catch hell.

Rebar running perpendicular to the studs works too.

As for the door, you need A LOT of reinforcement to stop someone from knocking it in.

A dedicated thief can go in anywhere. Just keep the kids out and increase the fire rating and you're good.

I don’t have a gun room per se, but we have a room we call the “hunting room.” And yea it stays a mess with hunting clothes, guns, bullets, flashlights, cameras, etc.

That Falkor 300 Win Mag doesn't qualify as "expensive stuff" haha?

Very cool, How do you like it?

I dont have one myself, but there are some stunning gun rooms in London and Dallas.

Pictured here is William Evans in London.

What would you have to do to reinforce the door? Also that'd end up with a pretty thick door threshold

I know someone who lives in Montana and is well off. He has purchased multiple bank buildings for the sole purpose of removing the vaults and relocating them on his property for his guns. His vaults would probably be considered rooms and certainly offer an unusual level of security.

Any baw with a sledgehammer can knock open a security door.

Hell if you're over 250 you can hit it at a dead run and knock most door casings out

Yeah that picture was with a few of my nicer rifles and pistols. I did that right after I put it up and realized that I felt better with those in the safe so I switched everything around. Ended up working out great because it really opened up my safe.

If I build another house I may throw a good amount of money into a true safe room.

I already told my wife that. When we build we will have a secure gun room. I would fireproof it, run cable through the walls and ceiling, and have a heavy vault door so I could essentially eliminate the need for a safe. I hate fighting with a never big enough safe for guns, bows, ammo, etc.
