Set a live trap parallel to a solid wall. They're damn near blind. They'll hit a wall and walk right along it right into the trap.

I’ll second this, I built one and caught one here and there, rarely. But I bought the scented trap and in the last year I’ve caught 15 or so, enough that I almost never have holes dug in my yard overnight

Put against the wall and put a 2x10 or 2x12 from the trap to the edge of your flower bed at an angle that creates a funnel right to the trap. Works like a charm.

Only thing you have to figure out is what direction to face the open end of the trap (what direction is he traveling)

My dad back in high school would bribe me with a case of beer to stay up until it came out to shoot it.

Back in 09, I had tried trapping one in my front yard with no success. So I was talking with a buddy about it. He suggested a late night stakeout.

So on a Saturday evening, I watered the yard for a couple hours hoping to attract him. Then I put our baby monitor on the front porch where he frequented. Around 11pm, we had action. Buddy and I went out the back. He made his way around one side of the house with a crossbow while I went to the other side with a .22 if he missed him. Well, he didn’t miss. Stuck his nasty arse to the ground! And man did he stink! Haven’t had one in the yard since.

Interesting. I didn’t know there were traps for them. We had one once. He would move early so one morning I smoked him with my .22.

I shoot them with 22 about 1/2 way back so they run off to die. That way I don’t have to fool with them.

If you can find his hole (the one in the ground), throw a smoke bomb down it and lay a board over the top with a brick on it. It Works

Need to trap it against a wall by funneling it somehow. Put trap against the wall and run a board at an angle to the trap so it has to go in unless it turns around. They can jump a bit so a 8-10” is needed. Another good trap is a large hoop landing net. Put it at the funnel so that it will over and be harder to get out of. He will eventually tear it up so monitor it or tie something to the handle that will make noise when it starts struggling in the net.

Do NOT use your good net if you go the net route.

Traps are difficult. I learned the techniques, none worked. Finally I just got up in the early morning for a few days and finally shot it.

Just tell them what you are doing. I used to go out at night and see three or four other Q Beams scanning the area. We killed 35 in my neighborhood last year. We trapped them humanely and dispatched them violently. I hate them.
