I am late on applying my Pre Emergent, should I kill existing weeds with a Selective Herbicide before applying the Pre Emergent?

Using Simazine as a Pre Emergent and was going to use 2-4D as a Selective Herbicide.

I have Centipede Grass.

Killing mature weeds is a bad idea due to the targeted weeds developing an increased resistance to chemicals. I would apply the pre-emergent and treat for the weeds in the spring.

So after the snow melts and the 14 degree temperature moderates, should I whack anything still green in my yard with Roundup? Seems like a good time to do some surgical removal, certainly no grass to harm right now.

Curious about this too. The usual suspect is back in my yard-don't know the name of it.

You are the man on these threads. I always open them hoping you've posted. Is this what you do for a living? I'd gladly pay you to come look at the crap my home builder called a yard (I'm the second owner) and chart me a path to a real grass environment. I'm ready to kill it all, scrape and start over. I've always had older, established St. Aug yards, this one neauseates me every time I step outside.

I always say i'm going to do something about the weeds this year, and i always forget about it after the grass stops growing.

My two main issues are nutsedge and bahia...ive never had much issue with crabgrass.

Any steps i can take to prevent/control those 2 weeds at this point?

I manage a large recreation facility, so turf maintenance is a very large part of what I do. My education is industrial engineering, so I'm no biologist or anything, but I do enjoy doing it and am still learning myself. I just hope to be able to give back as much info as I take in around here.

bahia...
I do a combo of pulling it when the ground is soft, and roundup, knowing that some of my St. Aug will die, but that it will eventually come back.

By June, the Bahia covers 80% of my 2 acres. I bought some stuff at the co-op last year to kill it, but i was scared to death to get the mixture wrong that i never used it. (it was something like 0.3oz per 20 gal of water. that sounds pretty easy to screw up. )

Sodded Centipede about 20% of the yard, and the Bahia doesnt get in there at all. The rest is Bermuda, which is where the problem lies. Literally.

Bahia - MSMA @ 48oz/Acre
Nutsedge (if the MSMA doesn't get kill it first) - Certainty @ 1.25oz/Acre
