Okay I bought a sack of oysters does anyone rinse the oysters first and then layer them over ice (in an ice chest) or do you just leave them in the sack in an ice chest with ice on top and the plug pulled?

I have heard differing opinions and I am looking for the best way. TIA

I've got them on top the ice in the sack

Wash them too much and you can lose their saltiness

I always rinse to knock off the mudd and grit. I use ice on the bottom, and put the oysters on top with some ice. Yes pull plug, or drain often. You do not want them sitting in ice water.

Thanks I was going to hit them with a quick spray to get the main mud off but keep them out of water.

i worked shucking oysters so here is how every place i worked at did it. the oysters were kept in a freezer in their bags no ice just dont keep them in there for days. we then rinsed them off just to knock off the dirt and smothered them with ice. make sure they are iced at all times or they are not good.
