Keeping ducks on a pond

We have about a 3 acre pond that I would like to get and keep some ducks on. I'd like to start taking my kids out there more often and I thought this would be fun for them. Is it as simple as buying some younger flightless ducks and turning them loose or is this something where I will need to go out pretty often and tend to. I have read a few things and I think I would put a floating dock with a little structure on it for them to keep them off of the banks at night. This may sound bad but I am looking to do this as low maintenance as possible.

Ducklings will require a cage and protection while they grow or they will all die from predators pretty quickly. Once they get larger they need almost no work

Could I raise them in a pen at the house and then take to the pond later or would it all need to be done at the pond? How old would they be when I could turn them loose at the pond, 8-10 weeks?

Buy bag of corn once a month put about 2 gallons on the edge in the water about 4 inches deep do this weekly.. I would be willing to bet u will have ducks pretty quick. As long as you don't hunt them its legal

We had 6 wood ducks that were raised in a bathtub/yard till they were 10 weeks old... then let loose in our pond w our 5 resident Mallards... the hawks had the wood ducks picked off in less than 2 weeks.
The Mallards were house/pen raised for about 3 months, then released to the pond and they have thruved for a couple years. We keep duck feed corn in the garage and the kids feed them a couple times a week.
All of them were used to humans so they didnt run off... actually ran to u when they saw u comin. Thought they were gettin fed

I would imagine so. My dad keeps them locked up until they are about half grown, then let's the go. They are just like cats, if you feed them, they will never leave.
He has a damn obsession though. A 3/4 acre pond with about 18 ducks. You can't even fish out there half the time because they will chase your spinner bait...until you hook one.

Tie lead weights to their feet so they can't take off.
Of course you got to get the weight right by trial and error so get enough ducks that you can lose a few to drowning.

I have raised two diff sets of ducks and taken them to my hunting cabin/land with a pond. The first bunch got picked off pretty quick. I took 10 out the first round ...4 got taken the first week. They slowly got picked of over next few months.
I have cleaned out some woods around pond and enlarged it with an island on it. So far all 8 have made it for about 6-8 weeks.
I let them get about 12-16 weeks were they are fully grown and have some flying capability. Since they are farm ducks they don't fly well or far but its at least gives them a chance to get away from predators. They eat lots of bugs in summer and i supplement a bag of corn or chicken scratch every 3-4 weeks.
