Kayak fishing on a mountain lake

Going up to the NC mountains very soon and may do some lake fishing for a day or two. I know of one (Fontana Lake) that has some fish I don't have here - Walleye, Trout, and Smallmouth.
Any tips on bait, lures, etc. from my fishing kayak?

Just use some worms. Leave enough of the tail free of the hook to wiggle around. Those fish will eat them up. Have fun! Also, a crappie jig bobbed up and down will catch a bunch over a brush pile.

Use a shad rap for the smallies. Cast downstream beyond rocks and retrieve so the lure drops over the rock edge. The fish like to lay under rock edges.
Smallies don’t like weedy areas in my experience. They want clean rocky bottoms with current.

Stayed in Fontana last summer. i threw small poppers with the fly rod and loaded up on little bass. In the afternoons there’s a shite ton of spiders out on the lake and you can find schools of little bass feeding on them. I would just drift in the middle of the lake throwing the poppers and caught all the little bass you’d want.

Fontana is beautiful. Finished a 60 mile section hike of the Appalachian trail at the dam last month. When we got to the dam, all I could think about (besides real food and a hot shower) was how much I’d like to be in a boat out there fishing. It’s the deepest lake in North Carolina
