Just picked up an H&R model 649 double action .22LR/WMR revolver with a 5 inch barrel.

200 bucks, original box, instruction sheet and receipt from Western Auto. Finish is a little rough, but I just shot it, damn thing is super accurate. I wish it was a 9 shot, but I am still very happy with it. Gonna be a fun little plinker.
Correction, it's really a model 676.

50% less reloading comes to mind.

You have a 9shot or one of these 676s?
My brother had a High Standard double 9 that I really liked, but I guess he traded that or sold it a few years back and didn't tell me.

Ha. I know it’s junk. That think will make you deaf, dumb, and blind if you shoot it

Hey, it's still neat to have it. Probably not many of them left.

Bumpin my own thread, because I just shot some .22mags through this pistol for the first time. This thing is a shooter! I highly recommend one of these old revolvers if you come across one.

I like everything about it, especially the little eye in the trigger guard, so you can hang it on a nail. It cost $104.59 including tax, at western auto in the early 80s.
Hell, the box this thing was packaged in, is a reminder of what American quality use to be like.

Western Auto

That's a store brand you don't see anymore, along w/ Coast to Coast, Otasco and others that evade me right now. A lot of stores used to carry guns, but stopped doing so many years ago. I bought my first centerfire handgun, a Ruger RedHawk in 44 Mag, from Montgomery Ward at South Park Mall in Shreveport a LONG time ago. I remember when Sears & Roebuck had their own store brand of sporting goods, including guns and fishing gear. Ted Williams was their lead celebrity endorser.

Sounds like you have a good find in the H&R.

Just went check.
I have a H&R Model 929 9 shot.
Bought it in the late ‘70s - early ‘80s. Don’t remember the cost. Pretty sure it was at a Howard Bros in Thibodaux.
