It is very much a pain. The quote from the Toyota dealer was over $10k to replace everything and 4-6 months wait on parts. I got lucky and found some aftermarket oem spec parts locally.

Who is buying these stolen CC's? Who are THEY selling them to? It seems like common sense to me to go after the people doing this and put them behind bars.

I'm going to assume the only reason we haven't started seeing more problems with DPF thefts is they're much larger and heavier than cats to deal with. They're usually worth much more money.

I had mine stolen off my tundra and tried this option. It through tons of codes and went into limp mode

cops told the guys who had them stolen that the thieves get $100-200 per and many cars have at least 2.

They steal them for the metals in them. Palladium and platinum are a couple of metals in them.

As to who buys? No idea. Most likely scrap yards. No VIN or anything on the catalytic converters so no tracing.

Great move. Like most thieves... they prefer easier pickings. They will see it and move on.

Yeah I had to go with some off brand aftermarket CCs bc I could wait 4 months for OEM. 9 months later my check engine light came on, code is something with the exhaust and like a $3k fix. frick that, truck is running fine. So my tundra is now like a Chevy—permanent check engine light always on. So the thief cost me my deductible, lowered resale value, the cost of this new exhaust fix (if I ever want to sell the truck I’ll fix it), and the $800 for the skid plate and installation.

Thieves deserve death and I’d happily volunteer for the firing squad. Would sleep well afterward.

Neither my truck nor my daily have catalytic converters. My truck had them removed with a tune and my daily I removed myself and used a leftover CEL delete module. Some thieves will try to cut through the shield, others might just cut something else as a petty frick you. Hope somebody catches them in the act and beats them senseless.

The exhaust systems on these trucks nowadays have several O2 sensors from the headers to damn near the exhaust tip. With the Cat missing one of these sensors will throw a code. It’s madding to say the least. And these thieves need to be hanged in the town square for everyone to see.

I've done a little research on an aftermarket or cat delete on my 4.7 toyota but didn't find any good news. The aftermarkets don't last or don't even clear the codes and the delete is problematic. The computers on those just really like a functioning cat.

Haven't had mine stolen (yet) but wanted to see what I'm in for if it happened. I'm now figuring out best way to deter the worthless thieves.

My insurance company has guaranteed them. If they throw up any code's then they will order the factory parts. You may want to check with them.

Our RV was hit and the insurance company acted like we had asked them to give us one of their children when they got the estimate so I did just this and increased gas mileage by almost 17% (from 6 to nearly 7 MPG). Its a little louder but not noticeably so. I don't know that it will work though on newer or normal vehicles...this is a commercial ford F450. Newer ones probably have all manner of sensors that will shut it down if they are getting bad readings.
