Just left Jiffy Lube. They came out of the hole and told me my "drain plug was stripped". I have always changed my own oil and know damn good and well there were no issues with the plug. Threads stripped off plug and tech told me it was "hard to take out" and "hard to put back in" then just "gave". Anyway, they put a quick plug in it, tried to charge me for oil change and sent me on my way. Told them I'd be bringing them a bill for parts when I fix it. And no, I didn't pay them.

I'm madder then two mfr's right now.

No, Im not. I'm pissed that I went in there, but I just didn't feel like screwing with it and needed an inspection sticker. So now I get to change an oil pan.

Might just retap it?

Can maybe do a time-sert kit instead of changing your pan. No, I have no experience with it.

they did the same thing to me several years ago. I went by the AutoZone and picked up a self-tapping replacement and carefully/squarely back-and-forthed it in and never had any further difficulty. It must be a pretty common occurrence.

If you are going to pau someone to change your oil, take it to a dealership.

Sounds like you cross threaded it when you replaced it. They couldn't have stripped it taking it out.

What location/town

Plug wasn’t cross threaded. He told me “it was hard to screw in and then it just started turning”. Clearly he drained oil then replaced plug. Over tightened and stripped it.

You can bet your sweet monkey arse I didn’t cross thread it. Lol. Besides, if it was cross threaded it would have been leaking for the past 5000 miles.

I agree. The only other people to ever change it has been a dealership

I do use a dealership as well. They send me coupons, so the oil change for my F150 costs me like $35 plus tax. The oil alone would cost me that.

Oh, in the OP, you said "hard to take out"

And yes, if you crossed it, it still could be tight and not leak.

Not saying it wasn't them, just going off info given in OP.

I quit Jiffy Lube in Alexandria years ago.Moron rounded off my oil drain plug as well as front and rear differential plugs using vice grips. There was a set of wrenches hanging there but he was just too lazy to reach for them.

bullshite they couldn't. They take an air impact to those things and all it takes is the grease monkey to forget to set the tool and they will gun the plug tighter before realizing their mistake. Too late at that point as they threads are mauled and gunning it back off just shears the thread roots, they'll never take torque after that.

Yup. Impact tools can f shite up really quick. A good old fashion twist then torque wrench is the right way to do it.

Actually he said both.....which further makes me believe he knew what did and was grasping at straws. What if it was hard to take out would you try to put it back in?

I've had idiots strip lug nuts changing my tires.

When it happened I walked the manager out, and lifted up the seat where the jack is, next to it is a torque wrench.

I pointed out that a man who carries a torque wrench to potentially be able to properly torque the lugs for a flat tire isn't likely to have stripped threads.

It can happen. Done it before with a bolt in a fourhweeler crankcase.
