Those things throw up some nice rolling waves directly behind them. However I've never seen anyone attempt doing it. Terrible idea? Illegal for some reason?

It was brutal, but seems like more of a "don't send it quite that hard" thing than don't ski behind barges.

Lol I would never recommend doing anything that could result in swimming in the river.

That current is deadly.

I saw someone crack the hull on an aluminium boat doing that sort of nonsense. Came over a wake and it was about 15ft down to the water.

nope

Not sure why so many believe all the old wives tales about the river, I have swam, skied, and jet skied in it many a time with zero issue.

This is around Natchez which is your area if I remember correctly, south of BR I would avoid it for traffic reasons but the river itself is fine.

If interested - go try surfing the texas ship channel when tankers go by. You can catch a decent wave on the flats and much less likely to die.

Even found a charter company when looking for a video: LINK

From there. Actually where I got this idea when I last visited. You hardly ever see anyone out on the river recreating. Maybe a kayak every now and then. Never seen a jetski ever though. As long as you wear a life jacket (duh) and have a buddy I don't see the big danger. Don't really have any plans on doing it but was just wondering. Though would be cool to pull up at the saloon and launch a couple skis under the hill. Those drunks might lose their minds.

I have ordered pizza to the boat ramp in front of the saloon and picked it up in a boat and on a jet ski several times, blows the drivers mind and someone always walks across the street to ask WTF

how old are you?

I've done it behind tugs/barges and cargo ships on the Columbia river.

Fun times.
