IST 12/17 Rainy Sunday

W.Feliciana
56 degrees
Light rain
Waited for the rain to be just about over and make sure I could get across the creek. Latform stand with a roof and a spot to park an ATV right under it. Climbed up and started drying my scope lens and had a 2 yr old 6pt come walking by. Might be a good hunt

55 degrees rain
State line looking into a creek where a big buck has been passing. Got a nanny in the plot but before I decided to shoot her she decided to move on.

Madison County MS
44°
Front porch watching the rain
Hot mug of blackness that is Community Coffee
Took this guy last night at 4:58. A doe stepped out the woods into the cotton field limping badly, her yearling following her. This was the 15th and 16th deer seen for the evening. They were milling around two giant white oaks at the corner of the field when this buck came barreling out of tree line.
I had been hearing some commotion and figure it was he that was dogging this doe hard and she ended up hurting herself.
Anyway I was unsure if I would shoot him but had him in my scope when he ended up pushing her back into the tree line. Not 5 minutes later all 3 popped out again and I decided his luck had run out. I put the bead on him at 190 yards and dropped him in the cotton row where he stood with the old .308
Not my biggest but he has an interesting rack and a great story to go along with it.

Headed to my spot in Madisonville after the rain lets up around 12:30-1pm.
They’ve gotta get up to eat at some point today. I took out a spike yesterday over here. We’ve still got a couple other 6’s and a 10 pt cruising through.

Looks pretty solid.
Guess I won't go sight in my rifle today. It's pouring here.

I’ve been in the stand since 5:30. Rain should be out of here by 11 but these stands are badass and I’ve stayed dry.
Question though. I’ve never hunted in the rain. Do the deer move?
Haven’t seen anything yet

My 9yo son and I got a chance to run down for a quick hunt yesterday afternoon. A group of deer came in with a nice 8pt chasing them. He has only ever killed a couple of does. So he was lining up on the 8pt when a couple of pigs came in.
I gave him the choice and he was like: "That pig is going down." And down she went. #175.

I really hate these weather patterns in Alabama

I’d like to see the buck’s right side of his rack. Does look interesting....

You asked about rain hunting. Yes, deer move in the rain, but heavy rain will slow them down. When I hunted the hills, I’d put on Browning hydro fleece and ghost through the woods. Nothing like slipping up on a mature buck.
Great buck, Cro. Western Madison County should be getting red hot about now.

From 7:30 to 11:15 nothing. Had a doe come by and behind her was a spike trying to catch up. Behind him was a cull 6pt. Had to let him walk. With only one buck tag left and 2 weeks vacation scheduled I gotta save it
