Is there a local place to get a natural gas conversion kit for generator?
Posted by Meauxjeaux on 9/1/21 at 7:10 am00
Since we may be in it for awhile I looked up us carb and the type c or snorkel kit, but they only sell online.
Anything similar that can be picked up at a store?
Currently in Mobile.

I’ve only seen them online. Can’t you get overnight deliveries in Mobile, or are you trying to get out today?

Coming back today. I’ve got a bunch of gas but figured I’d convert today and save that for cars.
If nothing local, I’ll get one shipped and pick it up in a few days.

I ordered from Amazon yesterday and they said it would be next week. Wondering if a place that sells high end BBQ pits would have the orifice and regulator you need to convert? I’ve been researching tri-fuel generators while sitting in the dark this week.

They work great....worth every penny.

I think the key is the intake adapter for the carb.
There’s a snorkel one that looks easy.

You can afro engineer it but you might also blow yourself or your engine up. Just get a regulator, a hose, drill a hole in the air box and run the end of the line in there. Open up gas valve until you get 60hz.

Beware of the kit you buy because you may have to 1) cut the frame and 2) install a frame brace. For my conversion (Century Fuel Products) it was not clear that my frame would have to be cut but in the end I had to. Order over the phone if not sure.

Ya I watched a vid of a guy that had to cut his frame because of the attachment on the air intake.

Is that really all it is? A regulator shoving gas through the air intake?
The motorsnorkel thing, which looks like this is exactly what it's doing, says something about getting the hose far enough in to get past the choke?
Not sure I wanna codger this together myself. I got some mech skills but not enough.

Yea thats all it is. The vacuum in the airbox pulls it in with the air. Governor/throttle will regulate the speed. Problem is the air to fuel ratio is God only knows what, but if the governor is holding 60hz its close enough to get you out of a bind.

Be sure to shut off the fuel line to the gas tank, it will help increase vacuum a little bit.

Tractor Supply
Any propane supplier in the area.
Blossman gas
Another one
I'm sure Amerigas and Ferrell are both in that area.

Funny, but no, not Quail Creek
This is great info all.
And the gas companies is a great idea.

Just doesn't seem too safe

It isn't, only because there's no automatic gas cutoff if the engine dies. It does work though. Also works with propane the same way.

There is probably a simple way to fix that problem, available at Grainger. Something that will close a valve in the absence of vacuum.

Yep, that would work great. I'm ashamed I didn't think of it, and I think ill have a natural gas generator for the next storm now
