Like temps maybe in 50's. Like a majority of our winter hunting. I bought a pair of 1400 gram insulation boots, you better have snow on the ground for those frickers.

Haha i have some 1200gram better be 35 or below and you better not walk alot! But my feet stay froze so i needed them! 400 is fine for normal winters here though. I have some and they are not near as hot

They should be fine but too light for those mid 30s mornings

Damn, you can really just wear regular boots. I have been walking around outside barefoot this morning with no problems.

I wear Lacrosse boots when it is wet, Smartwool socks until it gets under 35, and then I wear the insulated boots after that. Both of mine are 800 and that is plenty warm for me

I'm not sure. I don't know much about insulation. I just know that my feet don't get cold in rubber boots when it's in the 50's anymore.

I had some insulated lace ups with 600gram insulation and I could only wear em in the 30's. that's about the extent of my insulation knowledge.

I guess it depends on the person more than anything. I know my feet sweat in just rubber boots in the 50's if the sun hits em.

I have 800 gram big burlies and never had any trouble on warm days. I would rather have too much than not enough insulation in the boot department. Nothing worse than cold feet on a long hunt.

i heard that. rather have hot feet than cold feet anyday. my feet freeze in deer stands. I think I have poor circulation though so I'm not good to compare to.

I have a pair of 800g boots and my feet are never cold in them but only get too hot once the day warms up quite a bit like above 60

Chadboy,
Time, and a few hunts, will tell you whether 400 g. of Thinsulate if enough, or too much for you. If I'm walking while hunting (e.g. squirrel hunting) I wear uninsulated boots until temp is below mid 40's. If stand hunting I'll wear insulated boots if temp is less than mid-50's. Be sure and wear an inner layer sock that wicks moisture well. I wear a wool sock over that. Boots and socks are MUCH better now than they were when I first started hunting. I think my max amount of thinsulate in my boots is 600 gram.

When it gets down cold, wool socks over dress socks is my go-to footwear.

It all depends on what socks you have. With the right ones these days you can hunt with NO insulation to the high thirties. Cold comes from the bottom of the boot so keep that I mind.
