I just read this too. I don't understand why it is necessary when there is a federal repository that provides feathers and carcasses for religious purposes.

Sets a bad precedent, but it was originally their land and bald eagles aren't endangered any more. If they keep it to a minimum, then I'm okay with it.

I'd kill one or two up in Alaska if I could. They are everywhere...like vultures.
BTW, I saw 3 of them now on the nest at I-10 and 310 on Friday.

Natives have rights that most of us don't when it comes to the outdoors. They can hunt seals here, and can subsistence hunt and fish. I think it's pretty silly, everyone else has been forced to change with the times when it comes to hunting and fishing regulations.

What's silly is they will probably use a gun to kill this bird for feathers for "traditional ceremonies".

Bald Eagles are actually less than impressive hunters. They much prefer carrion and salvaging the meat that something else did the work for. Watching them fly is still a thing of beauty however particularly if they can't find anything dead and and actually work.

I agree. They used to nest in Orange Grove near Houma every year, and I got to see them there. Very pretty on tree top too.
But a couple did get killed on the highway pecking at roadkill.
