What would it be? 30-06? 308? 22? 223? something else?

Let's say this is going to be a do-it-all rifle - home defense, hunting, plinking, zombie protection - what's the best setup for your one and only rifle.

If I have to do all of that with 1 gun, 12 gauge.

Is that really $4100? Is that gun really twice as good as a POF Revolution DI?

I agree the 12 ga is extremely versatile. I have a fantastic 12 ga setup already - I'm looking at adding a rifle to my collection - I've always been a shotgun guy so I'm looking for advice on a similarly functional rifle.

A well built .308 AR would do all that no problem. On FNforum.net a few guys, including their wives, even hunt with their SCAR 17s.

308 AR

Between this and a 12 gauge you'd have pretty much the most versatile combo possible.

I would kinda like to get into 3 gun - so I'm inclined to go with the 308 for the heavy metal division - already have a 12 ga pump and a 45. I'm on the fence, though. I've shot 308, 22, 223 but never owned a rifle.

That was my thought - it seems like the 308 is about as a close to a 12 ga in functionality, but I don't know a lot about rifles so I appreciate the input.

Having two 7.62x39 ARs they've been fantastic. Black Rifle Arms makes a great bolt for them.

Round can be defense and I hunt with one of them along with my .308.

I did build the kids a 223 and they hunt with the federal fusion rounds and they've taken some big animals... albeit within 80 yards.

Ammo is plentiful for all rounds but the 223 weighs considerably less than my 7.62x39 ARs

One of those three I think your fine.

6.5 creedmore , enough power to drop a T. rex , accurate enough to knock a flea off a dogs arse at 1000 yards.

one rifle would be a yugo or norinco SKS
I’ll never not be able to get ammo, it’ll kill anything I can see (animal, human or zombie) and it will shoot dirty and never break

if I’m not threatened by zombies or cannibals and all I need it for is to eat, then a 10/22 with a decent scope

An AR10 or an M1A if I were actually concerned about home defense or zombies. Since you left the wording vague, I'll have shotgun for home defense/small game etc and my rifle would be a .338 win mag model 70.
