Built me an AR recently at cost.

Worth way more than $1k

But, fell in the bay in rough weather.

Depends on what politicians ban. Parts kits have been a good "investment" for me, I didn't really plan on it working out that way, but buying kits for $100-$250 and selling them for $700-$1500 a couple years later was a nice way to get into some other toys I wanted.

$1000 won't get you anything. You should have bought AR parts.

The right Colt or Winchester should go up in value. I don't know if $1000 is going to get you one that will earn you money.

It would be two M&P 15 Sport II's I bought in 2019. Could have made over $500 on that deal right now.

I did just buy a Colt Diamondback for a touch under $1100. I’ll choose that.

Invest in the stock market you should double your money every 7 years use that profit to then buy guns.

If you by all means want guns as profit then you will have to keep them mint and have all the boxes paperwork or whatever came with it at the sale. Best best is to buy a (Winchester, colt, s&w or browning) try to find a limited run or unique caliber or gauge and hold it for 25yrs.
You then will only make good money if you find the right buyer who has to have that gun for sentimental reasons.

I don’t know about future value..but I got one of these for under $1000, and it’s pretty solid.

I was interested in doing a build in addition to the full factory assembled gun I just bought. And I might still do that one day, as it sounds fun. But for my personal defense now, I don’t want to rely on something I’ve done myself.

On a local forum, there’s a section that reviews tactical type training classes. Multiple posts pointed out that several guys that showed up with self built rifles had all kinds of problems, and basically had to drop out mid-class. I think someone here alluded to it in the question I posted about building a pistol.

So I take that into consideration. I’d still like to do it someday when I have a workspace. But won’t be relying on my own build for protection straight away.
