I’ll be impressed as hell. Let’s see if I can figure out this image posting...

Universal lanyard that came with it:

I bought an older boat and I’m about to head out on my first little trip in it. Problem is I can’t figure out how the hell to attach one of these universal keys to the kill switch. Anyone seen this throttle setup before?

I have that exact one on a 1997 Mercury.

The kill switch stopped working years ago, and it just works.

But to make it run you have to place this above the switch to keep it from going all the way up.

Eta: You already have the key. Google, Baw.

Pull down red dong in the throttle assembly. Place loop looking thing over dong. Flip dong back up.

Pull the switch out and slip it behind it.

Use the loop one.

Put it over toggle then shove toggle back up

There should be enough clearance behind that gray flat molding

You know what? I think it just runs in the "run" position. The black part doesn't make it hover or anything. I think I just lost the key that will pull the switch down if you get thrown out of the boat a long time ago.

I probably should look into getting a new key/cord thing.

It’s a kit with all kinds of fittings in it. Like mine uses that little one on the end that sets a spring loaded deal.

May want to ignore my advice though, I once took a boat to the shop because I didn’t realize my son had yanked mine out while playing in the boat

Yea it’s on a Merc

Clyde it’ll run without it. Just trying to practice some safety.

Alx it’s just a universal lanyard full of different keys. In reality only one is useful. Dude before me just bought this one and left all of the useless ones on. I’m going to clip them off.

Yeah. #metoo.

That doesn't seem like something I would lose. More like something that would get jacked when it was in the shop for repairs.

I just never thought about it until your post. You probably just saved my life. I'm going to order a new one.

I didn't know they made such a thing, and I've been known to waist hours and hours walking up and down the isles at Academy for no reason in particular.

Don't feel bad, I was leaving the camp to put my boat on the trailer at false river one sunday, had a few beers before I left so I am running in the lake with a decent chop and my boat runs really light wide open with one person. When I went from kneeling on the seat to sitting down I bumped the switch, I pulled the carburetor, distributor, and everything in the middle of the lake. After getting frustrated for 30 min and sitting down to ponder life I cracked a beer and looked down and realized that I had hit the switch. Felt like a dumbarse.

I took the top of my troll motor apart on the lake only to later tighten the contact on my batteries fixing the problem. Lost a part. Didn't seem to matter.
