What is a good but cheap night vision/IR type scope to put on an AR. Gonna be shooting hogs and nutria with it so its gonna be in a boat a lot. There are some $300-400 ones on amazon. Are they worth a crap? Only want/need to see 75-100 yds

You can have good or you can have cheap
You cannot have both

Buddy has a ATN x sight. 600$ or so and it’s not bad for the money. Not sure about anything cheaper than that but the x sight will get the job done for 75-100 yards.

I have a Sightmark Photon XT and it works well enough for me. I added an additional IR light to my rails. Made a big difference with clarity. Does best in an open field. Thick woods with vines look like spider webs because of the IR light.

Don’t waste your money. My advise is save up and at least get a Thermal. I have a FLIR PTS 233. It’s around 2K. Buy once and cry once.

Supposedly hogs don't see green light. If you're looking for cheap, I would get an olight warrior with a green filter.

Right now you can get the older ATN x shight 2 on sale for 3-400 on clearance.
Or spring for there new HD xsight.
I have used and killed with the xsight 2...I replaced it with a HD version but have no screen time yet.
I want to save up for a thermal but no idea what direction I want to go in. Save and drop bank on a high end one or get one of the ATN Thor HDs and call it good enough.

Can see myself getting a FLIR PTS536 in near future.

I have the atn x sight .. no more than I use it I'm glad I didnt spend a bunch on it.. I've killed 4 or 5 pigs with it.. all under 75 yards. You can see 150 pretty easy

I have a Sightmark Wraith 4-32X digital scope. It's IR with a booster IR flashlight. Inside of 100 yards its more than adequate for seeing at night. I have only shot in daylight at the range and it's Sub MOA at 100 yards on my Grendel with Hornady loads so I reckon its fairly accurate for a digital camera with an imposed crosshair. Insert an SD card and you can record too. I paid $499 @ Cabela's. Google it for reviews and videos.

If you can’t shell out the money, this is an excellent option. It keeps weight down, you don’t have to put your eye right up to an eyepiece, you don’t have to really worry about battery life, the weight stays low, your rifle isn’t bulky, and the rifle pretty much feels the same overall.
My 16” BCM and 18” AR10 are both set up with green lights. It also gives an excellent contrast to the red dot.
On my 308, the rail right next to the muzzle is where I mount the green light (it’s the big one on my 5.56 in the first pic). I found a much smaller one for my 5.56 that is pictured in the other shots.
