How to lock in on a deer.
Posted by Houma on 9/5/16 at 4:15 pm11
Just got my deer on camera! Been hunting him for 5 years now. Hunter him hard but have never seen him outside of a trail camera. He had to be at least 7. He's going to score at least 150 and he's only an 8 point! But anyway, I want to dedicate my year completely to him and nothing else. What can I do?

He is smarter than you, you need to be smarter than him. You need to know where he is eating, where he is sleeping, how to get to a stand without being smelled, only hunt a stand in the perfect conditions, etc, etc. How large is the property you are hunting?

I hope you understand what you're saying. That's a giant. Maybe he will, but, that's extremely rare.

x 2 ... the deer is old b/c he's smart. You need to set up your stand(s) and hunt the most favorable wind condition.
my guess is this deer is very stealthy, comes in right at dawn/dust and will stand for 10-15 minutes scoping out the area before he approaches the food source
if there are lots of acorns in the woods this year, he doesn't have to travel far until the rut

You were hunting this deer when it was a two year old?

First step would be to NOT put pics of big deer you're trying to hunt on Twitter.

That's a hell of an 8 point, but he won't sniff 150"

Bingo
That feeder is the reason would will never kill that deer. He knows he can eat after dark and that is what he will always do. Get rid of the feeder and just spread a small amount on the ground in the mornings so it will be gone by sundown (if possible)

You sure he will go 150, this guy barely grossed into the 140s even with good kickers and a split brow. You have to be an absolute giant to make 150 as an 8, especially if he is clean.

Just saw your pics, don't care that he won't make that score, pew pew.

I would in link your Twitter. Since you are still in hs it seems
Thanks to your Twitter, I done called my cousin at LSP, got him to get me your address. I then searched assessors office records, and made a couple fake Facebook profiles to start chatting with your little sister and her friends, they will tell me who you hunt with for a pack of cigarettes and a daiquiri. gonna stake out your house and follow you to your lease next weekend, since it's "trail cam" season. Then I'm gonna find your feeder, set out my snares, and catch him during the week. Gonna make a fine set of rattling antlers out of him.
